Blair’s Super Spectacular Mega Christmas Dubstep Blog

I figured a blog posted a day after Christmas should get a wacky title like that. Sure, my actual Christmas wasn’t too exciting aside from what I did in the evening, but it was still a nice day and I’ll always have fond memories of Christmas from my days as a kid.

Monday the 19th was boring so I’ll skip ahead to the 20th. I decided to attend the college bowl game in St. Petersburg at Tropicana Field known cleverly as the St. Petersburg Bowl (I won’t list its corporate name). I was at the game in ’09 between UCF and Rutgers and while the game wasn’t the best the whole experience was a good time with the fans being into the spectacle, the bands playing music, people dancing around, and all that jazz. I could have done without people being stupid and arguing with each other, but otherwise I had a good time there. This edition of the bowl was Marshall, from West Virginia, vs. the school located in the southern part of Miami known as Florida International University. To delve into some dork talk, a conference that was supposed to send a team to the game wasn’t able to so they picked FIU as at least they are a state team and believe me, more important than anything else (including team and game quality) is having the “right” team go there in order to get many fans to go to the city and spend money there and then attend the game.

Before I even got to St. Petersburg, I decided to take a different way to the city rather than I-4; that stretch of road from Orlando to Tampa is almost always pretty brutal unless it’s late in the evening. I instead went west on 50 before making it to Toll Road 589. Sure, I paid a few bucks on tolls but the road itself wasn’t too busy until you got to Tampa, and it was less stressful than a typical I-4 drive. I stopped in Clearwater and a few places before making it to Tropicana Field. The main place was having dinner at Quaker Steak & Lube, a place I had been to once before down here in Florida. That Clearwater restaurant is the only restaurant they have in this state. I had my almost-always of a burger and fries; it was fine. I sat at the bar but I swear I just had a soda to drink. Some dudes were also eating at the bar and they had some wings. One guy decided to try out their hottest wings, the Triple Atomic. At least one was left over so I was asked if I wanted one. Given that the menu listed how hot the sauces were and the mild was listed as 740 on the Scoville Heat Units scale (the way how heat in food is measured) while the Triple Atomic was (no kidding) 500,000! I don’t eat foods that are too hot in general, and something that nuclear would just be bad news for me… and imagine it coming on the way out… plus, he actually had to sign a waiver (!) before eating those wings.

But anyhow, that guy had it and he tried to play it as cool as he could (in all senses of the term); you knew that he had to be hurting. Thus, I made the right decision there. After that it wasn’t long before I parked for the game; as I’ve done before the lot that’s on the corner of MLK Drive and 4th Avenue South is a nice place to leave your car, as it’s cheaper than parking at the stadium, it’s close by and best of all it’s right by an Interstate.

The experience at the game… it wasn’t quite the same as in ’09 but it was still an entertaining time. There seemed to be almost equal number of FIU and Marshall fans. I imagine those folks from West Virginia were happy to escape the cold and enjoy the warm weather. I got a shirt (as I did in ’09) and it looked chinsy compared to the ’09 one, but it was still fine-enough for me. The ticketing was different this time around so I sat in the upper deck, an area familiar to me at The Trop. There was plenty of empty seats by me so while that was nice, it meant there aren’t really any interesting stories to tell about the crowd in my general area. There was little in the way of whining and complaining and stupid behavior; I appreciated that quite a bit.

The game itself was no gridiron classic by any means. The offenses of both teams were so bad at times that it reminded me of the Bears teams of this year and past years! Marshall ended up winning 20-10. The attendance wasn’t all that great; at least the people there were happy to make enough noise. Despite the game being less than thrilling there was enough to keep me entertained. Besides seeing the image on the videoboard of a Marshall fan giving the camera the double middle fingers, there was a brief fight between a pair of football players right at the end of the game, which made me laugh.

Oh, and another great videoboard image was seeing a Marshall fan put up a sign plugging ESPN which also had a witty statement. The sign was to put down the Golden Panthers of FIU… or rather, “Panters”. Yes, the sign said “Panters”. Insert your own jokes about the state of West Virginia if you wish.

So, overall I had a fun time. It was nice being back at The Trop and it was also nice being in that area of Florida; I don’t get out that way too often anymore.

Wednesday was boring so I’ll skip ahead to Thursday. I went all the way to Deltona to watch a movie. I went to a new joint (run by Epic Theatres) that just opened the day before. They were showing the 4th Mission Impossible film on a giant screen comparable to the IMAX screens they have now at many AMC Theatres locations. The movie is what you’d expect: the plot is secondary to the action stuff, and the action stuff does deliver. It was a more satisfying spy story than what I saw in Quantum of Solace, that’s for damn sure. On the way back home I stopped for a bite to end at the Altamonte Mall; it was as chaotic there as you’d expect. On the way back I got a huge laugh: some idiot blew by me on the highway going way too fast. Soon after that, a cop noticed that guy's driving so a pullover took place. It took that idiot too long to realize it, but eventually he realized the flashing lights right behind him was to signal that HE should pull over. As I drove by, I literally lol'ed. That filled my heart with much mirth and joy!

I actually opened Christmas presents on Christmas Eve. The gifts were the usual; some giftcards, money, and clothing such as pajamas. It was good times, along with Christmas Day, where a big meal was had with my parents and some relatives. It was nice seeing them. In the evening I decided to go to Friendly Confines to watch the Bears play against the Packers. As they were open and offering up alcohol, I figured that was a good idea. And I was correct. Instead of listening to the football or even the Magic game, it was jukebox time there. If I would have had any small bills, some songs would have been picked by me. However, a lot of the selections I was fine with, so I can’t complain. It was a lot of rock songs (both modern and older), some rap songs which made me laugh due to how bad they were, and other things, such as rap songs I hadn’t heard since my days of going to college at Illinois State University, and yes, a dubstep song. If you don’t recognize that dance genre, it’s the “hip” thing these days and it has a lot of bass. You can go explore online for a better definition. The songs and eating some food and consuming some drinks was more interesting than the game. The new Bears QB was certainly better than Caleb Hanie, but that isn’t any tremendous achievement by any means. After a slow start, the Packers showed why they’re the best team in the NFL now and it took Chicago some garbage points at the very end to get the score to be as close as 35-21. As I was expecting Green Bay to win, I wasn’t that disappointed by the loss. To think that already, the Chicago game this upcoming Sunday the 1st is the last game of the season. It really flew by.

Then again, 2011 really did fly by for me. At least it was better than 2010, and that’s pretty much all I have to say about that. I have no idea how 2012 will turn out; hopefully things will become more exciting/interesting for me. As for my next blog on the 2nd, I’ll likely be lame and stay home for New Years Eve. At least I’ll be out to watch the big UFC pay per view on Friday night (I’ll be rooting for Brock Lesnar) and I’ll also be watching the last Bears game; so, I’ll have a few things to write about.

The Blog Where I Wonder Why The Chicago Bears Are So Terrible Now

Here’s what I’ve done this past week. There isn’t too much to say about the week before you get to the weekend. I know that’s the usual, but it has to be said again this time.

The only real interesting thing I did was on Tuesday night, which was use up that coupon from Planet Smoothie (as I explained in the last blog, I literally got a page of coupons from a random stranger). I got one and it was tasty. Otherwise I laid low, as I wanted to make sure I whipped the slight illness I had, which I finally was able to.

Friday was when I was able to do something interesting. I had the evening free so for the first time in awhile I visited the Mall at Millenia. For the most part it was the same old same old there. For the first time in a long while, I got a cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. It was their Key Lime Pie Cheesecake, which is pretty fantastic. I had dinner in the mall but not at the CF… not too surprisingly, that place was packed on a Friday night. Instead I ate at their food court at a locale called the Gourmet Grille. I actually had not had food there before. After having their burger and fries (I know, my “almost always”), which I thought were alright-enough but the price was the biggest selling point, I finally tried for the first time Chick-Fil-A’s peppermint chocolate milkshake. I heard correctly from some sources… that treat is tremendous and now I wish I would have had it in the past.

Saturday was boring so I’ll fill some time as I don’t want this to be too short of a blog. In the past week I experienced two more occasions where I had to use my horn and otherwise get angry at drivers when I wasn’t that far from home. Doing such a thing wasn’t the most prudent thing to do but I was mad and they deserved it! Plus, nothing came from it so even better for me. Hopefully when I’m out on the road this upcoming week things will not be so hairy. One day in particular will have a good amount of driving but I’ll mention what I did in the next blog to leave you in suspense.

Yesterday, it was going out to see an early and a late afternoon football game. The early game I saw at good old Friendly Confines. It was the Chicago Bears against the Seattle Seahawks, and I tell you, not expecting the team to win makes their eventual shitting of the bed not so bad. If only some of my fellow Bears fans would have done the same thing… yeah, I heard some pissing and moaning from those guys and I just rolled my eyes.

Then again there were some fans of other teams who were whining and crying and I got tired of it rather quick. While some of it was understandable, otherwise it sounded like a big dog howling non-stop. I mean, yelling at the TV for the player to “run” or “pass the ball” or “make a tackle you f****** idiots”… real helpful there. We all needed to hear those wise and intelligent bon mots! It’s not like the players could hear what those oafs were saying, despite what they may think. As for the actual game, another big Bears player got hurt early on but the first half was still fine, until they totally crapped themselves and they lose 38-14. I wasn’t expecting the score to be that bad! Caleb Hanie… he sucks, plain and simple. As a Bears fan I actually have to look longingly at the days where we had “great” QB’s like Henry Burris, Jonathan Quinn, and Moses Moreno. That’s not a good thing.

To answer what I asked in the title of this blog, the reason why the Bears suck now is that key players keep on getting hurt, and Hanie should never start another NFL game ever again. Good job Bears management in getting a quality backup for Jay Cutler.

After the game was over with I drove back to Clermont and went to the local Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the game between the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos. It turns out, not even the great Tebow can lead his team to victory when they make quite a few stupid mistakes, so the Patriots ended up winning by quite a bit. I was hoping for something more competitive, but alas. I was outside watching the game. I imagine the atmosphere would have been rowdier inside, but again, alas. At least while I was outside I could look at all the pickup trucks parked at the place and think it has NOTHING to do with all the trashy people around, including people swearing around little children.

So yes, the previous week I had was rather boring. When I post my next blog the day after Christmas, I’ll have more to talk about, including the Bears game against the hated Packers on Christmas Day, a day of travel, and some other things.

Whatcha Gonna Do When TEBOWAMANIA Runs Wild On You?

No matter what the outcome of the game between the Bears and Broncos was going to be, I was going to title this blog in such a colorful manner. Even after how the game turned out… yeah, I do have a few things to say about it.

My Tuesday through Friday weren’t too exciting. Really, the only highlights were me going to Walmart to get some items (and no kidding, I spotted an old guy with giant sideburns that stuck out; the best comparison I can come up with is Martin Van Buren! Honest. In fact, I’m talking about the picture you see of MVB if you look him up on the White House’s official site, that’s how out of control his hair was) and an evening visit to good old Planet Smoothie to consume their gingerbread smoothie, which was pretty good. That’s about it for highlights. I laid low. I won’t say too much about the weather, except that for a day or two there it was relatively chilly. I don’t know if that had anything to do with me feeling slightly under the weather or not. At least I have the proper medicine to combat that.

Oh, and while I’ll miss Space Case and her shorty-shorts, at least at Planet Smoothie I saw someone else wear shorty-shorts, which I usually won’t complain about.

So, I’ll skip ahead to the weekend. Saturday, the only thing I did was go to the local Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the latest UFC pay per view. Most of the fights were pretty good (and I got to see pretty much all of them through various means) so I won’t carp about that. There wasn’t too many people there when I got there early but during the show it became pretty busy. It turns out that a lot of people are interested in Jon Bones Jones, for good reason. The crowd wasn’t hot starting out… the last three main fights, though, they were pretty hot and there were some larger than usual reactions to some notable moments that happened in said bouts. As in the past I’ve known people not to watch UFC events right away but rather watch them a day or two after, I’ll be vague and say that one fight had a real gruesome injury. You couldn’t really see it in real time; on the replays, though… everyone went “OOOHHHH!” in horror, me included. That was pretty graphic.

Now, onto Sunday, and something that I imagine at least one or two people are waiting for me to discuss. Before I even get to the events at Friendly Confines, I’ll mention that my journey there and back included experiencing some horrific drivers, including rather soon after I left home. That didn’t help my moot right there. I mean, it was one of those cases where I couldn’t figure out what in the bloody hell the driver was doing; usually I have some sort of idea. There was at least one nice thing to say about the drive. On the way there I stopped at Planet Smoothie again, this time to consume their Apple Crunch drink, which I also enjoy quite a bit. Some random woman in front of me in line had a newspaper page full of coupons for the place (that’s something they’ve done before, and I’ve taken advantage of that). She asked if I wanted the rest of the page, and I said yes without any hesitation. I used one and as they expire in a few days, I’ll go back there this week to use another one. I did thank that woman; sad to say this sort of kindness isn’t always easily found in Florida.

Now, onto the game. It was the Chicago Bears against the Denver Broncos, led by the hugely-hyped Tim Tebow. As of late, the joke in various online circles is that Tebow is just like Hulk Hogan in his heyday, in that if you don’t remember Hogan’s matches too well, the bad guy would beat on him for awhile before hitting a big move… but Hogan kicked out and then got to his knees and shook while the opponent’s blows had no effect on him, then got up and did some punches, a big foot to the face and then a legdrop, to state it in a quick manner. TEBOWAMANIA is an appropriate term as he has started 8 games this season and is 7-1. Literally in all 7 of the wins, he started off playing not so good to terrible only to Hulk Up in the 4th quarter and suddenly play a lot better and that allowed Denver to come back and win. I mean, that’s unprecedented stuff and yet despite that the Bears have looked so terrible the past few weeks I thought there’d be no need for another Tebow Hulking Up.

I was wrong.

The majority of the game was rather poor from both teams. I mean, I was happy I could watch some other NFL games at the same time. During much of the game I didn’t hear too much from the Tebowaholics or whatever the fanbase would like to call themselves. Then suddenly, the Bears were leading 10-0 and up to about 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter, things were going fine and I was hoping there’d be no Hulking Up. But, things went awry. That indeed did happen and suddenly it was 10-7. As he was slicing and dicing the Bears D, I got the sinking feeling in my stomach of “Oh… no. It’s happening!” But, Chicago got the ball back and likely would have won… if not for Chicago player Marion Barber being a damned idiot and doing something really stupid. That allowed for Tebow to continue the comeback and suddenly the game was tied after a monster field goal. To my surprise there was a HUGE reaction to the field goal. I mean, there were many more Tebow fans than Bears fans at the Chicago-themed sports bar/restaurant, much to my consternation. Me thinks there’s some fair weather fans… and I tell you, one reason why there’s a segment that can’t stand Tebow (aside from the nonstop slobbering of him that has taken place for many years by this point) is that the fanbase tends to be happy to LOUDLY brag about how great of a guy he is and how he’s a True American Hero and other such hyperbole. It gets old.

Anyway, thus, the game went into overtime, and I did not have high hopes for the Bears winning. I was proven correct, as Barber did another really stupid thing, in this case coughing up the ball and giving it to Denver. Some plays were run and after another monster field goal, the Broncos won, many of the people there went batshit crazy, while the Bears fans walked out with sullen looks on their faces. I’m sure my facial expression wasn’t too different. That last drive was the big boot and then the legdrop. I was happy to get away from the crowing and bragging Tebow fans, as I heard it off and on since I got there around 3:20. Having to listen to that for about 4 hours straight… not fun.

To give an analogy, Denver was Hulk Hogan, the Bears were a big bad heel like, say, King Kong Bundy and Marion Barber was the inept heel manager (in this case Bobby “The Brain” Heenan”) whose interference backfired a few times and that was a big reason why Hogan was able to win. That win for Denver really stings; I mean, that’s a legendarily bad loss for Chicago. I don’t know if they’ll even win another game the rest of the season. Meanwhile, for the Tebows, next week they have to go against big bad New England, which is like Hogan wrestling Andre the Giant. As I saw someone saw on Twitter last night say and I’ve heard before, there’s the possibility that the Super Bowl will be Denver vs. an undefeated Green Bay Packers. I would not be shocked if it happened given how things have been going. And I would have to become a Tebowaholic!

I’ll be back a week from today. Not much is on the agenda but I’m sure I’ll do some things worth writing about.

Stories Concerning Stacy Keach, A Roadtrip to Jacksonville, & Space Cases

OK, so I didn’t see the *real* Stacy Keach. Rather, it was a dude who looked like him in his younger days. I’d say it was after he was Sgt. Stedenko but before he was Cameron Alexander in American History X.

I’ll warn you right now this will be a lengthy blog, due in part to what I did yesterday.

This was another week where there isn’t too much to write about until you get to the weekend, and in this case, yesterday. The reason why I didn’t post this yesterday is that last night I did something for the first time: attend an NFL game. It’s funny, I’ve been to baseball, college and pro basketball, college football, arena football, and other sports, but I’ve never attended an NFL game live and in person. I can’t really tell you why that’s the case; it just so happened this was the time I finally decided to do so, and the game was in Jacksonville, a city I haven’t visited in a few years. More on that later.

There really isn’t much to say at all about Monday through Thursday, except that on Wednesday there was a quick trip to the dentist. I’m fine, but I got to enjoy some good old nitrous oxide. As I’ve said before (and was proven in The Hangover Part 2) your local dentist has access to some great drugs! Friday I went to the Sand Lake Road area to check out the Barnes & Noble they have there (I picked up an item or two) then I once again enjoyed the greatness that is the peppermint yogurt at Pinkberry; you should get it like how it’s recommended, which is with some goodies like melted chocolate and white chocolate pieces. That’s highly recommended.

My Saturday was dull. I just stayed in and watched some college football. Sunday was when the excitement started; well, maybe that’s not the best word, as that day proved to be not the best, and I’m not just talking about the Bears game. As usual I went to Friendly Confines to watch Chicago play. They played against the mediocre Kansas City Chiefs; both teams had to play their backup QB’s due to injuries. Speaking of that, Chicago’s star workhorse running back Matt Forte hurt his knee early in the game, and he was out for the rest of it… and the next few weeks too. That was a crushing moment.

The game itself… WOW. I’ve thought for a long time that a Sunday Night Football game back in late ’02 between the Bears and the Tampa Bay Bucs was the worst game I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I’m not sure about it but this Bears-Chiefs game may have topped that. Aside from some cool moments it was just terrible to watch. The final score was 10-3 Chiefs and if it wasn’t for a fluke touchdown that Kansas City got at the end of the first half the game would have gone into overtime tied 3-3! Not helping matters was the fact that there were some real loudmouths around. Not a great experience overall. I’ll still be there Sunday afternoon when the Bears have to play the Denver Broncos. A few weeks ago I thought the game wouldn’t be so bad but now, I think it’ll be God-awful to watch in various ways and I don’t even think Tim Tebow will do his usual and start off badly only to Hulk up and give them a big boot and legdrop. Yes, I’ve heard some people online say that about Tebow and compare him to Hulk Hogan in his big comebacks. TEBOWAMANIA, in other words. Man, having a lot of Bears fans and fans of the former Gator QB there… what an atmosphere it could be.

I didn’t head straight home. I stopped at the Premiere Cinemas at the Fashion Square Mall to watch Immortals 3D. I hadn’t been to that nice Cineplex in far too long and I heard the 3D film looked rather nice in that format. It does, and while the story isn’t anything special at least it’s entertaining macho fun.

Yesterday, I had quite the day trip as I went up to Jacksonville to watch the Jaguars play against the San Diego Chargers. Both teams had poor records, but I decided to go to that game rather than a Bucs or Dolphins game as I hadn’t been to that part of Florida in a few years (not that there’s too much for me to do in that area), there’s been stories for years about how it’s possible the team will move to another city-so I might as well watch them when I can-and I was hoping the game would be close. That last part was incorrect but I still ended up having a good time at my first-ever live NFL game.

The drive there and back was uneventful. On the way there I took the scenic route via such roads as 19 and 17. The scenery was nice and for part of the way I hardly dealt with any traffic at all. When I did… there were some nincompoops. I also spent a few minutes in Georgia in order to look for things that I can’t buy in the central area of Florida. I am mostly talking about such geeky things as sodas and energy drinks. I did find some things I can’t find around Clermont, so mission accomplished there. I had dinner at some restaurant I found out about awhile ago… I just don’t remember how I stumbled upon it. After hearing at Smashburger, I have to say their namesake isn’t shabby but it’s awfully greasy and messy to eat. They do have a cinnamon milkshake that is pretty tasty, though.

Now, onto the game. Trying to figure out where to park wasn’t as clear as crystal, unfortunately. I had to follow some cars that appeared to know what they were doing. I was right as I stumbled upon a parking lot that was literally in a park. Having to pay 30 dollars was an unpleasant surprise. I walked to the stadium, saw what the cheapest tickets were then I thought, “Oh yeah, THAT is why I haven’t been to a pro football game before.” 65 bucks… yikes. Still, I paid and I walked up to the 400 level. At least it was a nice cool night with a light breeze.

The game started off badly for the Jaguars. They were a lot better for most of the second quarter but fell apart and they were awful for the second half. That allowed for San Diego to win 38-14. While I wish the game would have been closer, at least it wasn’t boring. As for the fans there, there were a surprising number of Chargers fans around. I had no idea. While there were a good number of empty seats around at least the people there were into the game. I could have done without some of the whininess I heard, at least I do understand somewhat why they would be frustrated with a team that has been average the past few years and now is pretty poor this year. They didn’t seem to mind that their coach got fired last week but a lot of people were excited they have a new owner that’s supposed to take over soon, a Mr. Khan. I wasn’t sure how people would like him; I don’t like saying it but he was born in Pakistan and I could imagine some white trash fans not liking him just for that reason. However, a lot of people were sporting fake mustaches a la their new owner and had signs and t-shirts proclaiming their love for him. They were also nice to their current owner, so that’s good.

Here’s some more fan-related things:

• Of course I saw some fan with a sign and said Chargers fan was one of millions in the U.S. who seems to be unfamiliar with the term “you’re”, given that they never use it even when they’re supposed to. Also of course, I know people in person who don’t know the difference between the two!
• Halftime was pretty neat. Not really for the BMX-related stunts I saw, but rather that they handed out they Styrofoam stick things which actually lit up in a blue color, so the lights were out for halftime and the image of all those blue sticks in the crowd was pretty neat.
• Unfortunately there were some whiny fans by me. My theory concerning me attracting the worst people is proven true again. A lot of people left before the game was over and I can’t really blame them. It was a Monday night contest and all. I stayed the entire time. Given the high cost I wanted to try and get as much out of it as I could.
• THE moment of the night was in the second half when I heard some jackass braying to people that they shouldn’t be leaving before the game’s over with. So, who do I see leave early in the 4th quarter? Why, that braying fan and his family! I swear this actually took place.
• The highlight in terms of fans there was a young lady who had a personalized Jaguars jersey. When I saw it said “Space Case” I thought, “Uh oh. This could be trouble.” However, this woman was just plain wacky and strange… and in a good way! I never saw her drank booze or ingest any sorts of substances, so she’s just naturally that out there, which is even better. While I could understand how some people wouldn’t like her, all she did was be wacky and try to get the section pumped up for big plays no matter what the score was. She was just fascinating to watch and she was hilarious too. In the 4th quarter when things were going bad she completely went bonkers. She was dancing often and she literally was ROFL when the Jacksonville QB was running with the ball and for no reason at all he just dropped the ball. A lot of people aren’t happy with that QB, and this year they REALLY wish that they could experience TEBOWAMANIA by him being a Jaguar. Anyhow, Space Case doesn’t have model looks but with that kind of personality… I’m sure she’d be great to party with!

Anyhow, what a long, long day I had. I am glad that it only took a few minutes to get out of the parking lot; that said, I still didn’t get back home until after 2:30 AM. I have no idea when I’ll attend my next NFL game. It’d be neat to see the Bears play live… OK, not the Bears of today, but you get what I’m saying.

I’ll be back Monday the 12th. I’ll watch the latest UFC show at Buffalo Wild Wings and I’ll also talk about my experience with Chicago fans meeting up with TEBOWAMANIA fans.

Auto Shows, Martin Scorsese Eyebrows, & Defenestration

Defenestration is a term that I wasn’t familiar with until recently when I saw it used in a few different spots. It means the act of being thrown out of a window; yes, they have a term for that! If only the Toadies would all suffer the act of defenestration… oh wait, did I say that with my outside voice? There are actually a few people I’ll mention in this blog who I got aggravated with and wish I could use defenestration on.

Alright, so here’s a recap of what I’ve done since Monday the 21st. That Monday was dull. Tuesday, the only highlight was me spending some time looking around at a few stores for a new printer, as one is needed. The one in use now has been used since ’05 and now it doesn’t run all that well. The plan was to get one on Black Friday as hey, what better time to buy one? And no, I will not be one of those assclowns who waits in line for hours to get into the store the minute it opens. That’s just cretin-like in behavior. I mean, on the news I saw some local people line up a few DAYS beforehand to wait to get into a local Best Buy! What a wonderful way to spend Thanksgiving. Wednesday, I had the evening free so I went to the Florida Mall to look around there. Then, Thanksgiving itself I stayed at home, had the typical delicious meal in the early afternoon, then was lazy the rest of the day.

That was a quick wrap-up of Monday through Thursday. I did more on Friday and then on Sunday. Friday, it was what I’ve done for years now, which is to attend the Central Florida Auto Show the day after Thanksgiving. I think my first year there was ’05 and I’ve gone to it each year since then. It used to be a good amount bigger than it is now. Back then you had most of the major manufacturers there. When the worldwide recession hit, automakers like Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes, and BMW decided to skip it, and plus the likes of Pontiac, Hummer, and Mercury has bitten the dust recently. Still, it’s nice to look around at many different models… and the cars are nice too! Sorry, but the ladies who they have around to talk about a particular brand are usually pretty easy on the eyes. The 2012 cars they had there were nice to look at and I was able to sit in some of them. I enjoyed examining the likes of the Nissan Leaf (fully electric) and the Chevy Volt (both electric and gas engine, as those TV ads helpfully explain; when the electricity runs out, the gas motor kicks in), along with cars that were either redesigned or making its debut as a ’12 vehicle.

The vehicle that amused me the most was the Scion IQ. It’s a vehicle being brought to the U.S. after being elsewhere around the world. It’s comparable in size to the Smart car, so yes it’s tiny. I actually got in one. I was able to fit alright, the roof just above my head, but the wheel was positioned so low it was like I was about to drive a go-kart! It has 4 seats… technically. Soon before I got in it I saw a girl who looked to be around 6 or 7 years old who was in the back and was complaining she was cramped; need I say more? Then, behind the back seat there is literally no room between that and the hatchback door aside from a miniscule gap that is like less than an inch wide. It just looks so goofy. At least the Smart has a small space for stuff behind the back seat… I know that personally as someone I am friends with on Facebook (and also know in person) drives one.

Anyhow, it was still a fun time there. The drive there and back was the usual aggravation, sad to say. Oh wait I almost forgot, on the way to the auto show I stopped at the Staples in town in order to pick up a new printer, to replace one in use since ’05; not too surprisingly, it was running poorly by this point. I managed to get the cheapest printer there, which was still an All-In-One deal and as it had everything I needed, I got it. Thank you, 50 buck printer! Sure, if it breaks down earlier than expected I’ll be pretty peeved and regretting my purchasing decision; until then, I’ll be happy with my wise spending.

Saturday I laid low and stayed at home, so I’ll get to what I did yesterday… what a less than great day it was. The drive to Friendly Confines and back was more aggravating than usual. Besides the idiocy that I usually see on the highway, I saw something different when I was on Highway 436; the speed limit on the section of the highway I was on was 50 MPH. A car was about to pass me going like a bat out of hell; I mean, he had to be going at least 70! As it wasn’t like the road was deserted and the guy was driving recklessly, I stuck my hand out the window and gave the car my opinion of their driving as they flashed by. It was deserved, I say!

Then, there was the game itself. As I mentioned the last time, the usual Bears QB got injured and likely won’t be back the rest of this season. So the backup-Caleb Hanie-was in there and well, there’s a reason why he’s the backup rather than the starter. He usually was pretty terrible, unfortunately. Yet he had some flashes of brilliance, and did a lot of running around on his feet. It was like looking at another version of Tim Tebow! The defense had to work like dogs but they still did so well that by the end of the game the Bears somehow had a chance to win it. The referee, though, made a penalty call against Chicago that was so wrong, so screwed up… he was the Jared David St. Laurent of referees! You know, THE most incompetent and awful in a given field who somehow still gets every opportunity to screw up. While it was unlikely for the Bears to get the win, they still had a shot and it was unfairly taken away from them.

This happened after I spent a few hours at FC dealing with idiots. No, not the employees who work there; they are awesome, for the most part. Rather, it was my fellow customers. For example, part of my time there, I had to sit by some old asshole. He chose that spot to sit by, so once again my theory of how I attract the worst people is proven true. Besides him having been there at least once before he was so confused by their menu that he had to have it explained to him multiple times by the bartender (trust me, it’s not that hard… and that is what she said), he randomly cursed at a play during another game and dropped The MF Bomb… when children were nearby. What an ogre; what a day. At least while I was there I saw another old guy who was fine, and also had what I call Martin Scorsese eyebrows. You know, ones that are out of control.

My next blog will actually be up Tuesday December 6, as I MAY be doing something on the 5th. It’s not set in stone yet but I’ll leave that window open in case it is something I do… yeah, the pun was intended.

Casual Racism, Minxes, & Raging Against The Machine

Before I get to talking about what I did during the middle of this month, here’s some things saved over from the last blog which I wasn’t able to fit in there.

• If you’ve seen the Mitsubishi ad talking about Normal, Illinois (where they have a big auto plant), yes I do recognize some of the shots from the days when I was there, mainly the downtown area which is right by the ISU campus.
• For a few days there my Internet was acting strange. Some sights loaded at the usual speed, but others wouldn’t. Thus, one site in particular I wanted to download podcasts from and I wasn’t able to as the download speeds were so slow. I got mad so I complained about my Internet provider on Twitter. They actually found my tweet and replied! That wasn’t expected. I told them things were fine and indeed, eventually things returned to normal. At the time, I was pretty aggravated, though.
• While I was driving to see the Bears vs. Lions game, I was on 436 and I came to a stoplight. I noticed the light was green but one lane of cars wasn’t moving. I was able to pass by that blockage and saw that a minivan had its front hood up; I presume engine problems. The people behind that minivan weren’t able to figure out that car was broken down? It was quite a bit away from where you’re supposed to stop for the stoplight. Typical Florida idiocy, I say.

Now, onto the events of this past week. Monday was dull-aside from me getting a much-needed haircut-so I’ll skip ahead to Tuesday. It was actually a day of note. Much of that day was pretty terrible. I won’t go into the details why, as it was nothing serious. It was just a day that wasn’t good. Not even a great new treat from Planet Smoothie could keep me in a cheery mood. They have a new peppermint drink there and it’s da bomb, yo. I highly recommend it.

Things did manage to improve once I got to the main location of the evening, which was the Brick & Fire Pizza & Pasta Parlor, the Casselberry location. I unfortunately got there late so I only participated in parts of a big trivia contest; if I had gotten there in time AND been in a better mood, I know I would have crushed it and helped my pals win it all. One of those pals had a birthday on that day and as they don’t live around Orlando I only get to see them once in awhile. It managed to be a fun time there, especially when the trivia contest ended and conversation was had between the group and the trivia host, a gentleman who is a local independent wrestler by the name of Simon Sez. If I would have been in a better mood I might have been more willing to go to a karaoke bar located near Kissimmee. No dice on this night, though. Maybe one of these days I will. No matter what I know I won’t have to sing, so that is a positive.

Wednesday was dull but Thursday I was able to do some things. No, none of them involved that new Twilight movie. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… the popularity of that franchise will always be a mystery to me. Instead, I was able to have dinner in the Sand Lake Road area. For the first time in a long while, I ate at O’Charley’s restaurant, which has good food. I just hadn’t been there in ages because the last time I was there, it was with someone else and the service we got was dirt-slow and just not good. This time I was solo and the service was fine. The lady bartender had an interesting personality but at least she was nice. A British chap who was also at the bar referred to her as a “minx”; I don’t know about that, but I had their cherry limeade, which was pretty great and better than the overrated one you get from Sonic, which is an overrated place in general. I also had their chicken tenders, which were pretty darn good. After that I stopped at the nearby Pinkberry, where I had their new peppermint yogurt. That is also some great stuff.

Friday, nothing happened so I’ll mention the highlight of Saturday, which was returning to the local Buffalo Wild Wings for the first time in a month and a half. I went there to watch the latest UFC pay per view. The first two bouts on pay per view were fine, but the final three… pretty great in their own ways. The entire show was quality stuff, and I say that from watching the pay per view fights plus the four fights they showed on Spike TV. That main event was an all-time great fight, and I’m not exaggerating. The final two fights in particular the crowd there at BWW was into. I manage to have a pretty good time there, consuming Pabst Blue Ribbon and watching the fights *and* the college football action. If only I could have enjoyed things better… but I had to deal with Troglodytes most of the time there.

A variety of people ended up sitting by me during the time I was there. Some of them were fine (despite them being smokers; then again I do expect that because I sit outdoors at BWW; I am able to accept that but I will NEVER accept having to deal with dumbass idiots, no matter the circumstances); others were real bores. For example, there were some loudmouth UCF fans who were griping about how their football team was playing. Then again, I guess I DO understand how UCF fans would be angry with their football team. The way they’ve played the past few years, it’s understandable to be pissed off by how inconsistent they are and all the stupid mistakes they make. They left long before the game was over with. It was good on their part as they ended up losing. Soon after they left the seats were filled by some real bro types. One guy just didn’t sound intelligent and he proved my initial impression. He seemed to be anti-Brazilian, as the final two UFC fights were Brazilians vs. non-Brazilians, and he didn’t care for the South Americans. The semi-main was Wanderlei Silva vs. Cung Le, and he was rooting for the guy he referred to as “Chinaman” and “Jackie Chan”! Those are direct quotes, by the way. Of course, Le is Vietnamese, but who cares about that, as to that redneck, all Asians are Chinese. Unfortunately it’s not the first time I’ve been in Florida and heard some white trash refer to any sort of Asian as Chinese! Typical. Like I said, I’m never going to accept having to put up with people like that.

Sunday, I went into Orlando and stopped at a Barnes & Noble in the area before going to Friendly Confines to watch the Chicago Bears play against the San Diego Chargers. I wasn’t sure how the game would turn out as San Diego is so inconsistent. It turns out, it was another exciting game. The Bears were able to win 31-20. It was an uneventful time at FC. No griping to do about idiots there. Awhile after I got home, though, I found out that the Bears star QB, Jay Cutler, got hurt during the game and he’ll likely be out the rest of the year. That was news which made me sad. Hopefully they’ll be able to win games with another QB in there.

I’ll be back next Monday, the 28th. For the upcoming week, besides the obvious on Thursday there will be such thing as me going to see the Bears play against the Raiders, a team that I thought they’d beat before the injury but now things aren’t as certain, and my annual trek to the Central Florida Auto Show in Orlando. Thus, I should have plenty to write about for the next blog.

Bongzilla, The Po-Po, & Fox… The Animal & The Network

This blog will have its ups and downs. Some things I really enjoyed but boy, some things really turned me off.

I’ll be a little different and not start this off chronologically; instead I’ll mention Wednesday the 9th. Oh what a day. In national news, there’s the stuff with Penn State University… recently I’ve said more than once that college football has had a HORRIBLE 2011, what with all the scandals going on and schools pissing on tradition just for the almighty dollar, and it’s most people treating college football *way* too seriously which is part of the problem. I said that before I even knew of the drama at Penn State, where a football personality was pretty much allowed to do his thing and sexually abuse boys as the people in charge it was more important to protect their program’s reputation than stop a horrible monster. A popular grandfatherly old coach who had been there forever was fired that night for not doing enough (which I say was the right call… him getting fired, I mean) and the students at that college act like Troglodytes so they form a mob and yell in protest. It being a large mob, there tends to be some rabble-rousers who use the situation to start a lot of trouble, and when emotions run high… a riot happens! Pretty embarrassing to riot over such a thing.

Then, while I’m trying to follow that, through a tweet I look online and see that there’s a LOT of drama revolving around my pal Jared David St. Laurent. He’s been bored as of late so to entertain himself he’s been trolling various people in this state’s wrestling scene, and it’s worked. Note that this has been done on a local wrestling messageboard. So, some people got real mad and now there are “legit” fights being threatened; whether or not all of this is true or at least some of it is being staged for a “shoot” fight at a later show or whatever nonsense (which won’t really draw many if any extra people to the actual show) it’s a major turn-off for me. Unfortunately, I know that some of it IS for sure true and that is as much attention as I’ll devote to that garbage on here. It’s the sort of thing that makes me not want to go to any local shows anytime soon. It’s high school drama and I am happy I haven’t even read most of it. What I have read… the Toadies are and have almost always been brutally unfunny people.

On a happier note… my Tuesday through Friday afternoon wasn’t too exciting. I was on the down-low. Things really picked up starting Friday night; that’s because I returned to… MAKO’S! It’s been far too long since I’ve enjoyed that wonderful “party bar”, a few months as a matter of fact. Things started off slow when I got there, but by the end… I saw some great sights.

It was the usual there. You know, scantily-clad ladies (both in attendance and working there), wacky games being played, a blaring soundtrack with booty-shaking songs, the whole works. One new feature was a beer bong with multiple hoses, which they referred to as “Bongzilla”.
I ended up seeing someone there who I hadn’t seen there in awhile as she doesn’t work there any longer. No, not a particular person I’ve referenced before, but another nice young lady who I always chatted with briefly when she worked there. This time she was there as a customer. She was with her pals so I again only got to briefly chat with her, but that was good enough for me.
There were some vertically-challenged people there. No, not Josh Rich and Yapo! I mean, neither of the guys was fat… anyway, one of them was rather nerdy-looking. I know, me saying that, but for reasons I didn’t see, he was invited to stand on one of the bars. He took his shirt off and he was compared to Steve Carell, which I supposed is far, if Steve wore glasses. Then again, one time when I was there I was spotlighted and told that I was Stu from The Hangover! Gee, thanx. No, I do not fall in love with hookers…
Oh, and I got a bodyshot from a comely young lass who works there (she shook her body and then I took a shot from her ta-das, to borrow a phrase I heard recently). That was worth the price.

Otherwise there isn’t too much to say aside from the fact that it was the usual good time… that was until I was about to leave. I was by the front door when I suddenly saw some guys yelling at each other, then the shoving started. Security was quick to literally throw them out of the building. The arguing continued but said security and some cops passing by helped quell that situation. Once I did leave, I was walking back to my car and I saw some drunk oafs arguing with a bunch of cops. I stopped and stood by some random people eating some burgers and fries as the expected happened and those drunks got arrested. Sad to say I didn’t get a COPS moment and the arrests were without a struggle (I was hoping for the guys getting thrown down, but alas…); it was still a great sight to see. The next time I’ll return to downtown Orlando, I don’t know but hopefully it won’t be as long of a break from that magical place.

Saturday, I stayed at home and I ended up watching a good amount of the UFC card on Facebook, where you had to go to watch everything but the main event (unless you watched the last few prelim fights on Fox Deportes) which was on Fox. The undercard was fine but the bout between Ben Henderson and Clay Guida was even better than it looked on paper. Imagine if the Fox show would have been 90 minutes (as I understand they will be from now on) and the fight would have opened the program. Those guys would have been big stars, but as they weren’t on Fox or pay per view… but that’s the type of garbage I expect from Fox. I won’t go on a long angry rant about that network; I’ve just known for years they’ve been the dirt-worst in everything and they proved it on this night with their overall presentation. The way the big main event turned out made me happy as it made Fox look really stupid and I actually am for them looking stupid rather than UFC being harmed by how things turned out. It was ironic I talked about Fox as the night before while driving home I actually came across a fox, which I almost hit but I was able to avoid. It was literally a fox on the run, to bring up a song lyric.

Sunday, I went to Friendly Confines to watch the Chicago Bears play against the Detroit Lions. Everyone-me included-was shocked that the Bears ended up destroying the Lions, who looked downright terrible. Their QB apparently hurt his hand in the last game, and that’s the only reason I have for him playing so poorly. The game was a pleasant time, needless to say. Also nice was a lack of meatheads around; not having to listen to goofs bellow about their team on a constant basis for 3 hours plus… that is always a good thing.

I’ll be back a week from today. I know I’ll be doing a few fun things which will provide fodder to write about. Hopefully there won't be as much drama and angry things that sour my mood.

Brazilian Steakhouses, The Autobahn, & Dumb Americans

Note/warning/whatever: this is going to be a lengthy blog.

Before I get to talking about what I did this first week of November, I have to finally mention a pair of bizarre things I’ve seen on the road in the past few weeks. I usually think that I’ve seen it all on the road during my long 30 year life. However, once in awhile I do get surprised by seeing something incomprehensible. Here’s two examples, one short and one long, and one involving a parking lot.

1. I was on 436 in Orlando, driving to Friendly Confines. At a stoplight, one guy gets out of the passenger seat of one car to high-five the driver of the car to his right! Thankfully he got back in his car right as the light turned green.
2. I was at a parking lot; to try and make it clear, the rows go West to East and the immediate south of the road I parked in was being paved so it was blocked off. I went in to a location for a bit. I came out and saw that some dumbf*** parked their car not in a spot but right in the row! I couldn’t go West in order to head North to leave the premises; instead I had to back out then go backwards to the next lane going North in order to get out of there. If I wasn’t sure that person (who I never saw) was going to leave soon, I would have called someone on them, likely a tow truck. That person is an exceptional Troglodyte, even for Florida.

Once again, that’s why I insult Florida drivers on a constant basis. Speaking of insulted, that’s what happened to my intelligence the previous week when I was at Walt Disney World and I was in the England area of Epcot and in a store, some drunk youths were talking to one of the dames working there, who is from the UK. Through reasons too complicated to get into, one of the drunk youths was talking to the worker about some incredibly complex trivia about her home country… such as, what countries make up the UK, and what “UK” stands for! I swear, this is true. She then explains her Troglodyte behavior by admitting she’s “trashy”. Like that’s an excuse. Did I ever hang my head in shame there. THERE is the personification of “stupid American” right there.

Anyhow, here’s what I’ve done in the past week. Halloween, I didn’t go trick or treating or dress up or anything of that sort. Rather, I went with the relatives to dinner at a Brazilian steakhouse, the same one I went to in the past. I enjoyed the experience a little more the second time around, but I still think it’s an overpriced thing, as good as the various meats were. Tuesday I went back to Epcot and Walt Disney World. Heh heh heh, I say (long story as to why I do that running joke). I visited the spots I wasn’t able to go to the previous Tuesday. That was good… and not having to deal with any trashy people there was nice too.

I can say from being there the past two times that a pair of popular in the 90’s groups still have a lot of fans, and that’s Boyz II Men and Hanson! Yes, they’re still around. They performed at Epcot (not together; II was there the 25th and Hanson the 1st) and many people were there to listen to them. To think that back in the day they were HUGE acts… and I was a youngster when that happened! Man am I ancient.

Wednesday night I went with the gang to Longhorn Steakhouse. It wasn’t my choice; they decided to go there because they saw some new food advertised in an ad. Imagine that, a commercial that’s actually effective. That rarely happens anymore. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. I had my almost always of a burger and fries, and that was tasty-enough.

Thursday was dull so I’ll skip ahead to Friday. I had to drop someone (not those relatives, but someone else) off at the airport in Sanford. On the way back I stopped at the Oviedo Mall. I hadn’t been there in awhile. I know that they changed management, which apparently meant “now, we have many empty spaces where stores used to be”. At least there I finally found the returning-for a brief amount of time-Mountain Dew Game Fuel. This time besides the usual cherry citrus flavor there’s also a tropical flavor. As usual I have had trouble finding those specific limited-time Mountain Dew flavors. I’m glad that this time I didn’t have to go to the bowels of the Earth to have a taste of it. Also on the way back I drove for a few miles on I-4 and not too surprisingly, some jackass drivers were acting like it was the Autobahn, driving way too fast, especially on what was a busy road at the time. No wonder why accidents happen so often here.

The only thing of note concerning my weekend is that I watched the “big” college football game on Saturday night between the two top ranked teams in the country; that usually only happens at the end of the season. Both teams were known for their defenses but the final score being 9-6 in overtime… I know some people think differently, but I thought it was a crap game. Sure, there was intensity and the defenses were fine… the offenses were God-awful for the most part. Then again I’m turned off of college sports after this horrific year they’ve had, where tradition has been pissed on and now they’re all open about it being all about the money more than anything else. That and the increasingly sloppy play in college football the past few years has really turned me off of the game.

Speaking of football, last night I went to Friendly Confines and watched the Chicago Bears play against the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that was hyped up due to its acquisition of some high-profile players but for various reasons haven’t lived up to expectations. Well, they still are underperforming as the Bears won 30-24. It was a very exciting game, the momentum switching back and forth a few times. Both teams made some dumb mistakes so there was some understandable griping going on from Bears and Eagles fans there. I wasn’t sure if Chicago was going to win so I’ll take the win even if I do feel sort of bad that Philly has done some underperforming in years past too. OK, maybe I shouldn’t feel that way as dogfighter Michael Vick is the QB of the team… the other guys, though… at least it was fun to watch and I consumed some alcoholic beverages there. The next Chicago game is late Sunday afternoon against the Detroit Lions, a team the Bears looked God-awful against earlier in the season. I’ll hope for another surprise here.

Oh, and on the way there I stopped at Total Wine & More for the first time in awhile. I did get some booze there. I also saw more than one car driving around at night without their lights on. Geniuses, there are in Florida. One of them, I noticed that right before I passed them and I honked my horn in an attempt for them to wake up. It wasn’t until a few minutes later that they realized their stupidity and rectified the problem. That goes along with some more Autobahn moments.

I’ll be back at my usual time of Monday. I don’t have much planned for the week proper, but the weekend should have some real excitement.

No More Days ‘Till Halloween, Silver Shamrock!

I know I have used that joke before, but it’s a reference to a jingle from Halloween III (i.e. the one without Michael Myers) which you’ll never forget if you’ve heard it before. You will wish you had never heard it, I can guarantee that.

So, I had an interesting week which involved me doing some things out of the ordinary. Monday the 24th was dull so I’ll skip ahead to the next day, where I went to Walt Disney World. Heh heh heh. I went to Epcot to enjoy the Food & Wine Festival. Surprisingly I had only been to it once before, a few years ago. While I was there I saw things such as a shithead young kid who looked maybe 13 loudly arguing with his mom (I really wanted to kick that punk right in his still-developing crotch!), but I also enjoyed some tasty treats and yeah, I consumed an alcoholic beverage. In this case it was something I’ve known of for years but never had: a Singapore Sling. It has gin, rum, and some other things in it. Wow, is it strong! It’s not bad at all, just strong. It was a good time there. On the way back I stopped at good old Planet Smoothie, and they have an Apple Crunch drink which is pretty damn good. I highly recommend that.

Wednesday and Thursday were uneventful so I’ll skip ahead to Friday. I went and saw the first of a two night tournament known as the Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup; it’s named after a late local wrestler who passed away almost 10 years ago from cancer; he was only in his early 20’s. Since ’03 they have had yearly shows for him, highlighted by a 16 person single elimination tournament. I’ve been to all of the shows since ’04 and some drama issues involved (i.e. BS with those damned Toadies) I always enjoy going to those events as each year they raise money for good causes, such as cancer research, and stuff gets donated to auction and it’s a really nice thing to attend.

I’ll say more about it on my Livejournal wrestling page*, where I posted something new a few days ago and I’ll post something new sometime in the first half of November, but I’ll be brief here by saying that this year’s edition of the tournament was pretty great. Some hardcore wrestling fans who were there said that this was the best wrestling tournament of its kind ever. I haven’t seen enough to make that sort of judgment… I will say now that out of the JPC tournaments I’ve seen it’s the best ever, and no I didn’t say that in a Comic Book Guy voice. All the guys really busted their ass and didn’t phone it in. So much good action, I enjoyed it, and I’m someone who isn’t as much of a pro wrestling fan anymore as I used to be back in the day. I’ll elaborate on that more on Livejournal sometime in the future, but everyone seemed to have a good time, from the hardcore wrestling fans to the regular folks, and even little girls.

Friday night’s show was in Brooksville. It’s a town I’m not a fan of, for many different reasons. I had no problems this time, thankfully. I could have done without the issue of sitting by a young lady-as in, not even in high school, so no it’s not that kind of thing; I’m not a pervert!-who often accidentally kicked or nudged me and never apologized once. Then again, she IS a young teenage girl and otherwise acted fine so I guess I shouldn’t complain as the gal could have been a LOT more annoying.

Saturday’s show was in Crystal River. I didn’t go straight there, though. I took “the scenic route” and visited a random mall first. It wasn’t too large but it still was fine. I ate at Villa Pizza; it’s comparable to Sbarro, which isn’t the best compliment I can give. At least it was quantity over quality. I then had dessert as I had some yogurt. Yes, there’s more yogurt places out there! That is THE hot trend as of late; you know many of them won’t last, though. The one I had was Red Cherry; it was attached to a Chinese food place. What I had was lemon-flavored and was tasty. From the mall itself I got some cheap stuff from FYE. Yes, those are still around, and I did manage to find stuff in there that wasn’t outrageously priced.

At the wrestling show itself I can’t say too much there that I can’t save for Livejournal. Hopefully there will be future editions of the Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup. The attendance wasn’t as great as in previous years. Otherwise I’ll be positive as those events were well worth the price of admission and then some.

Oh yeah, and I did come across some horrid traffic on both days. No wonder why I don’t drive as much as I used to. At least now my car is at the 77,777 mile mark at this moment.

My Sunday was dull; however, from Saturday the 29th through this Saturday, some relatives from out of state are down here in Florida. I know I’ll be doing a thing or two with them that’ll be out of the ordinary.

I’ll actually be back Tuesday the 8th. That’s in part because the next Bears game isn’t this upcoming Sunday but rather a week from today. I’ll be talking about that along with the stuff with the relatives.

More Stories Concerning How Bustin’ Makes Me Feel Good

Before people think I’m being crude here, I’m quoting a line from the Ghostbusters song. To think, as a kid I thought nothing of it; as an adult, though, once I figured out what it really meant, I can’t help but laugh at that line.

So, up until Thursday things were not too exciting. Sure, I went to Barnes & Noble one afternoon to use their Wi-Fi and then I went to Planet Smoothie, but otherwise nothing interesting to write about. Thursday, though, I went to eat at Lime Fresh Mexican Grill; I’m glad that place is still around. My luck with restaurants as of late, I wasn’t sure if that would be opened or be closed due to lack of customers. When I’m there there’s always a few other guests around, although it’s not packed. I’m glad it is around as they have pretty good food. I ended up at the always sparsely populated Festival Bay Mall (where most of the spaces for stores are unoccupied; how they are STILL open will always leave me gobsmacked) as a pair of movies would be playing there in the evening. Various locations across the country showed Ghostbusters, a movie I never saw on the big screen. At the Cinemark at this particular mall, it started at 7:30 rather than 7, making it easy for me to get out of there and not have to wait at all before I go see Paranormal Activity 3 at 10.

Concerning what I saw first, sure it’s an odd and goofy movie, but it’s still wildly entertaining. It sure as hell is a lot better than Ghostbusters 2! And who knows if the discussed for years Ghostbusters 3 will ever get made. I hope it does, if only as an apology for how disappointing the second one was. Anyway, with the movie I saw at 10… I know I’ve mentioned it more than once before but I heard about the first movie two full years before it got released, so by the time I got to see it for the first time at one of those random screenings they had across the country (remember those?) I was more than pumped for it, and I thought it delivered. I know quite a few people who dislike it, but to each their own. I’ll never forget watching it with a crowd apparently filled with people who had zero idea what it was going to be about, and by the end quite a few of them were apparently soiling their pants from fright. I dug it watching the movie in that perfect environment, with a crowd soiling their pants from fright. It was the same when I saw the second last year and the latest installment this year. I’d say that the movie was the worst of the three but that is not a slight. I still enjoyed watching it for sure; it’s just that as they expanded the mythology I thought it was goofy, and be warned that much of the advertising you’ve seen for the movie features clips that are NOT in the movie! I kid you not. That really got my dander up as I was expecting to see one clip in the film (what I thought would be the obvious ending) and when it didn’t show up I got pretty peeved about it. I’m not as upset now but whoever is responsible for that Jared David St. Laurent-level of thinking… at least with both movies I saw on this night, the crowds were good, i.e. not filled with dumb shits flapping their gums while the motion picture was playing. Not too surprisingly, I saw some poor driving skills on the way back and on the way home, but let’s not

Friday and Saturday were dull-aside from the weather getting cooler-so I’ll skip ahead to Sunday and boy, what a day. Sad to say it was filled with quite a bit of anger, and that’s with the Bears winning the game. I did what I usually and I went to Friendly Confines to watch the game, even though I could have watched it from the comforts of home. They have pretty good food there, it’s nice to watch all of the games going on at the time. Plus, it’s also nice for people-watching at times… as I mentioned before, they were playing the Tampa Bay Bucs but not in Chicago or Tampa, but rather London. If only I could have road tripped there to see that game; it’d be great to visit the UK as hey, that’s part of my heritage. As I predicted, the game was going to be close. For most of it the Bears were doing well but by the end they started playing poorly and the Bucs came back. Thankfully Chicago ended up winning the game. As for my time there… oh boy.

I got there and sat at a random spot at the bar. Not that far away sitting at a table was a pair of guys, one a Cowboys fan and the other a Redskins fan; those two people being pals is surprising if you’re an NFL fan. Anyhow, on the Fox stations before the games is a pre-show and every week they have on Frank Caliendo, an allegedly funny comedian who has only done ONE character that I’ve so much as mildly chuckle at, which is impersonating Charles Barkley. Otherwise, what a loathsome personality who I wish would go away… Frank I mean, not Sir Charles. I heard those two guys laugh at his awful attempt at impersonating Jay Leno and from that point I was already expecting trouble. Indeed it was true, and the Redskins fan was a boor to an incredible degree. Literally the first play of the game on he kept on running his mouth almost constantly, and he wasn’t even praising his team but instead berating them, and cussing up a storm too. I quickly got tired of that Troglodyte cretin knuckle-dragging oaf so I decided to move to another spot at the bar, far away from that dick.

My troubles didn’t end there.

The people who sat right by me were fine, but the surrounding area, full of loud-mouths who cried and bellowed and bitched and moaned about how their teams were doing. What meatheads; sports are NOT the end-all be-all of this world, I say, but seemingly most people take that bullshit WAY too seriously. Thank goodness I am not one of those people. Who I got the most aggravated with was a loud douche who whined and belly-ached about his Tampa Bay Bucs. That’s why I took special glee when the Bears were able to get the win over Tampa Bay. He was real quiet after that, much to my amusement. I’ve complained about loathsome boors there in the past (it hasn’t been much of an issue this year) but this way was pretty bad in terms of guys who I wish would be water-boarded.

At least for about the last hour I was there I sat by right a rather cute blonde. She was there to chat with another guy sitting at the bar, not me; that’s usually how it goes. At least she didn’t seem like a bimbo, came off as pretty nice, and best of all wasn’t someone who was crowing about their team. After my latest experience there I’m sort of glad the Bears don’t play a game next week. Although, I know that when they do play next, on the night of the 6th, I’ll be there and I’ll consume an alcoholic beverage or two, which I really should have done here.

By the way, on Facebook last night I mentioned my frustrations with the crowd at FC. Some people basically said I should accept having to deal with that sort of crowd, and it’s like going to a strip club and expecting the ladies to keep their clothes on. While the analogy got a chuckle out of me, I disagreed and said I never put up with stupid people no matter where they are, and I should never accept people acting that dumb. To throw out an analogy of my own it’s like me accepting that people in Florida are likely to act stupid at a movie theatre and not shut the F up at all. Am I supposed to accept that? No! I’m going to get mad at that A-hole, and I’ll always be proud to live my life not having to accept the status quo and just put up with people being obnoxious oafs and disturbing others with their oafish ways.

Anyway… I ended up going to IKEA to pick up some small items before going to the nearby Zaxby’s restaurant. I hadn’t been to one of those in too long. I first ate at one of those places in their home state of Georgia way back in ’05 when I was returning from a summer vacation where I drove to Illinois and back. A little later they opened up a franchise in Orlando and I haven’t been there enough since then. Their chicken fingers are fine but their fries are real good. On the way back home I was on a two lane road and I saw the aftermath of an accident! One car’s front was smashed and the other had its side destroyed, so it was obvious what happened. I could smell what I presumed was burned rubber in the air. I wish I could have seen what happened live, not because I’m a masochist but more for curiosity’s sake. Both drivers were out of their cars so I didn’t stop; not that I could have done much, and plus other drives passed them by.

I will be back on Halloween, talking about the usual. I won’t be going anywhere for football on the 30th, but there still will be things to discuss, including me attending a pair of big local wrestling shows and a relative visiting the area on vacation; they live in another state so it’ll be nice seeing them.

The Lions, Vikings, & Bears, Oh My

Here is a recap of what I’ve done in the past week, which includes having to watch TWO Chicago Bears games. Just from the first one, this wasn’t necessarily a good thing. The only thing I really did on Monday was watch the Bears play on national TV against the Detroit Lions; the Lions for most of the past 50 years have just been a horribly-run franchise, which explains why most of those teams have been just putrid. They’re a lot better and after a start where both teams played some of the worst football you’d ever see, the Lions got better and for much of the game Chicago played like diarrhea. I wasn’t too happy with how the people that run the team didn’t do enough to help protect the quarterback, which has caused problems the last few years and it continued in this game. That made me rather frustrated. The Bears ended up losing 24-13 in a game not as close as the score would suggest.

My Tuesday and Wednesday was boring so I’ll mention that during the past week I found out about a pair of restaurants closing. The first one was the local Perkin’s in Clermont. I had been there a few times before and the food was at least decent. I was just there relatively recently with someone I know; I noticed there wasn’t much of a crowd there, so this wasn’t a surprise. I then looked online a little later in a week to see if a certain restaurant in the Dr. Phillips area was open. As I unfortunately figured, the joint I had been to two times before-known as Twisted Burger-was closed after being open for only about 6 or 7 months at the most. That was really not a surprise to me, as the times I had been there it was practically deserted. Leave The Memories Alone…

Thursday night I picked up my pals at the airport; remember, I dropped them off the preceding Sunday; that was about as exciting as Thursday got. I didn’t really do anything on Friday either, so let me skip ahead to the weekend, which did have some interesting things to talk about.

Saturday I stayed at home until late at night. I went to the Orlando-area… no, not downtown Orlando. Rather, I went to the Enzian Theater to watch an infamous 1980 horror film called Maniac (the Michael Sembello song of the same name was originally written after he saw the movie; he really toned down the lyrics and that’s how it ended up on the Flashdance soundtrack); it was my first time seeing it and it’s not the easiest movie to watch. It’s just intense, graphic, and pulls no punches, to use some clichés. You see someone’s head explode in slow motion via shotgun blast! It does suspense very well in some spots, though. I’m not quite sure how I feel about it; it didn’t suck, though. What also didn’t suck was that the Enzian have a haunted maze sort of deal going on (no, I didn’t go through it) and thus it was a real party there, with employees dressed up and two tables set up with food and alcoholic drink on them. I ordered a spiked punch sort of deal, as why not? Plus, that AND them selling Jello shots reminded me of, well, me consuming that sort of thing at parties at Illinois State University, which was back around TEN years ago; I’m flabbergasted myself those good days of college were so long ago.

Oh, and on the way back I was on I-4 and in a non-shocker of non-shocker I saw some horrible driving on that stretch of road, including a guy who I swore was going at least 100! If I didn’t have to turn off of the highway to the 408 soon after I saw that, I would have tried to floor it to go after him… no, not to kick his ass, but rather get his license plate number and call him in. Honestly now, going 100 when the speed limit was 50… that’s yet another reason why I always complain about all the traffic in this state… I have good reason to do so.

Sunday, I went and saw the Bears play in the evening. It was on national TV but I still went to good old Friendly Confines to check it out… and have some alcoholic beverages. In hindsight, maybe I should have gone to a birthday celebration someone I know (not all that well, but I’ve still briefly chatted with them in person before) had in Orlando at around the same time. I got invited to it via Facebook awhile ago. I just never really thought of going there. It turns out, quite a few people I knew were in attendance; that was breaking news to me when I found out about that online after I got back from watching the Bears game. Eh, oh well. It was a costumed party sort of thing and I did not have any ones on hand, at least anything worthwhile unless I wore some 70’s clothes and went as a hipster… whoops, I mean a guy from that decade. Plus, it involved karaoke and while I’ve gone to those sorts of things before and been fine as people knew NEVER to ask me to do that sort of thing as I’d rather catch leprosy than do a karaoke song. As I remember mentioning in one of these earlier in the year, way back when in my Illinois days I got pretty pissed off at some acquaintances due to them constantly asking me one night to do a song and I had to constantly tell them “no”; maybe I’m the only one who hates having to repeat something over and over…

Anyway, that night there probably wouldn’t have lived up to my expectations and would have been rather awkward. At least I did wish that individual a Happy Birthday on Facebook.

I did manage to have a decent time at FC watching the Bears play against the Minnesota Vikings. It sure as heck helped that the Vikings are a poor football team this year, but Chicago looked far better than they did this past Monday and they kicked some ass, winning 39-10. I enjoyed seeing the Bears play well, needless to say. While I was there I had some beers, including my first-ever taste of Guinness Black Lager. To say something that people would consider blasphemy, regular Guinness tastes like liquid bread to me, and that’s not a good thing. I’ll stick with regular lagers, hard ciders, and drinks like berry-flavored beer, thank you very much. Black Lager was more drinkable to me, and yet I didn’t think it had much of a taste at all, so I’d rather drink something like Pabst Blue Ribbon or some other beer that is known but not the standard fare like Bud or Miller Lite.

As for my upcoming week, I really have nothing planned aside from watching a movie or two on the big screen, and watching the Bears this upcoming Sunday. I could watch them at home but it’ll be more fun to go out and watch them play. They’re against the Tampa Bay Bucs but the game is in London, England. If only I could go to that; it’d be nice to leave North America and visit a lot of spots in Europe. Maybe one day… also, maybe one day I’ll go and attend an NFL game live as I haven’t done that yet. I have no idea how the game will turn out except that it’ll likely be close. I’m sure I’ll find stuff to do to occupy my time (not occupy Wall Street; that whole thing is just lame and I'm sure most of those people don't even fully understand what they're protesting against; they'd be better off finding jobs rather than standing there for days on end. Now, if it was Occupy Wall Street and you're talking about the row of bars in that plaza in downtown Orlando with that name, that's a different story).

Toshiro Mifune, Drunken Clams, & Epic Rainstorms

While my week did not feature any Chicago Bears action (they’re playing tonight, and I’ll be watching that from the comforts of home) it did feature something interesting which proved to be a lot of fun.

Monday and Tuesday were rather uneventful so I’ll skip past them in order to get to what I ended up doing on Wednesday and Thursday. The whole gang left early on Wednesday (a little too early for me but it wasn’t my decision) in order to go to Satellite Beach, a small town on the highway known as A1A-as name-dropped by that master wordsmith known as Vanilla Ice-which is a few miles south of Cocoa Beach, home of The Model Rick Martel.

The pal of one of my pals (but I’m not pals with them; confused?) was renting a condo but they couldn’t go due to circumstances beyond their control so they asked people they knew if they could stay in there and our turn came up for Wednesday and Thursday. It was right on the beach and it was nice. A lot of room and space and the expected amenities such as a fridge, microwave, oven, and all that. There was also a large balcony and indeed, time was spent on there as the windy conditions of Wednesday and Thursday meant you got to experience a great breeze right from the Atlantic. Pretty groovy. It was nice to relax in the room, but there was also going out…

OK, so it wasn’t club-hopping or anything, but I still went out. Wednesday evening we went randomly searching for a nearby restaurant. Satellite Beach must be hurting for business as on A1A there was hardly any sort of businesses and some restaurants were recently closed. It took going to nearby Indiatlantic to find a spot, and because it was the first decent-looking place we found, we stopped at a place with a silly name… Bunky’s Seafood Grille. To show you the type of place it is, the logo is a clam that looks to be hammered; that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The place looked decent-enough and the service was fine. However, everyone thought that the food was just average. Me, I had my almost-always of a burger and fries (hey, I don’t eat too much in the way of seafood) and the burger had a rather unique taste to it, although at least the fries were good.

Thursday I was out on my own before we left in the afternoon. I drove up to Cocoa Beach as I hadn’t been there in awhile. It’s largely the same as it’s always been. I went in RonJon and the next door Cocoa Beach Surf Company to look around, as I’ve done every time I’ve been in Cocoa Beach. This time I actually bought stuff from both. I did the tourist thing and got a RonJon shirt. I also got PJ pants and a real cheap shirt from the Surf Company. Good deals, I say. As for the beach we were on, it wasn’t exactly Daytona or Cocoa. A lot of shells on the beach, the sand a weird color, a lot of seaweed… yet it was still nice to walk on said sand and go a little bit into the ocean. Not too much, mind you, as the waves were pretty strong due to the wind. Overall, though, I enjoyed that short trip to the Atlantic coast. It was nice as something out of the ordinary.

Friday through Sunday… it was mainly a LOT of rain. I mean, pretty unusual given it’s Florida to receive that much rain and it not be due to a hurricane. The only thing I did on Friday was end up in the Sand Lake Road area and I did indeed check out Pinkberry to see if there was anything new there; there wasn’t, but I still got a bite to eat there. By the way, in no surprise to me at all, due to it raining the total IQ of the Florida driver took a noticeable dip, and as I was on the road all three days I saw some of the dirt-worst driving I could imagine seeing. I sometimes think that wrapping my car in bubble wrap would be the safest thing for my vehicle with all those clowns on the road.

Saturday, there was college football then the UFC pay per view at Buffalo Wild Wings. There was a lot going on that night with a big baseball game and some college football games. Those guys trying to figure out which TV would show what event was pretty poor and resulted in many people getting angry about it, which I didn’t need to hear as I was trying to pay attention to the action in the cage. At least with the TV I was watching there were no problems at all. I have no idea why they showed the pay per view in standard definition instead of HD, but compared to the other problems they were having… I shouldn’t really complain. As I was watching the pay per view I did pay a little bit of attention to the other sporting events going on, so it wasn’t a dull night there. The pay per view was quality stuff, as I figured it was going to be. So, despite the drama (and the rain) it was good times there.

By the way, it was pretty dope seeing the shirt that fighter Jose Aldo wore on the way to the ring. It was a blue and yellow deal which advertised one of his sponsors, Dethrone, and it had a tremendous image on it: Toshiro Mifune from the classic Seven Samurai. It was pretty dope. Also, it’ll be my last time seeing a UFC pay per view there until next month, as the next big UFC pay per view on the 29th I won’t be able to see as there’s a big local wrestling show going on which I have to attend; it’s an annual deal and I’ve gone to all of those events since ’04 so I don’t want to break that streak to see some fights which I know what the likely outcome will be.

Sunday, the only thing I did was pretty nice of me; I dropped off some people I know at the airport as they went off on a fantastic voyage to a location out of the state. I was able to use their car so on the way back I got to enjoy some satellite radio. It’s nice, although if I had it full time I don’t know if I would maintain the enjoyment of using it. I still like listening to the burned CD’s I make, and I have I don’t know how many dozens of those. It beats listening to the local radio stations around here, which as of late have turned terrible and now I don’t listen to that as much as I used to. No wonder why satellite radio has become so popular.

As for my upcoming week, I’m expecting it to be not too exciting; at least there will be two Bears games to talk about, as they play tonight and this upcoming Sunday night. The second game is against a poor team, the Minnesota Vikings, so I’ll be shocked if they don’t win that. The game tonight, though, I’m more worried about. For pretty much the entire past half-century, except for a few years the Detroit Lions have been a putrid team. I mean, embarrassingly bad. However, this year they look rather impressive and are undefeated. I’d love it for Chicago to win; I just don’t know if they’ll be able to.

Weather Vanes, Milkshake Drinking, & Lowly Versatility

I actually got this title from an ad I saw on Yahoo Weather which advertised some sort of aggregate of interesting tweets. It SO sounded like the title of one of my blogs, I had to use it here. And no, I have no idea what “lowly versatility” means, as I did not look too closely at that aggregate.

By the way, apologies for this being up a few hours late (yeah, that’s what HE said…) but I was occupied with other things. Next Monday it should be up at the usual time. Also, I won’t go ranting and raving about the traffic I dealt with the preceding week; I usually do that, and even though some of the stuff I experienced was notably horrid (at one point I swore I was driving on the Autobahn with people blowing by me like I was standing still, and I was going 70! To the shock of probably no one reading this if they are from the area, it happened on I-4 in Orlando.

I actually had a busier past week than usual. It was a nice way to end September and begin October. Monday was boring but Tuesday I went and saw Drive at the local Cineplex, as a lot of people on the Internet have been imploding their pants over this movie. I went and saw it, and personally I thought it was overrated; not awful by any means, but overrated. I explained it more in my movie reviews blog*. There were movies I happened to enjoy more this year than that one. There also weren’t as many car chases as you might expect from the subject matter.

* http://blairreviewsmovies.blogspot.com/

Thursday I went to have dinner at a Bahama Breeze which recently opened on 192 in Kissimmee. It had what you typically expect from one of those restaurants. I had my almost always of a burger and fries, and also a mojito; hey, it was a happy hour special! It was strong-tasting, which was fine with me.

Friday, that’s where my entertaining (but tiring) weekend started. In the evening I went to the AMC Theatre in Altamonte Springs to check out their IMAX screen; to Friday they have a special deal where for only 7 bucks you can watch either Star Trek, Inception, or Fast Five. Me, even though I’ve only seen the first two in the series, I went and saw Fast Five due to the strong praise it got from various circles. While it may have been the most ridiculous movie I’ve ever seen, it was also ridiculously entertaining, so I am glad I saw it in that format.

Saturday, what a long day it was. I went and ate at the Tilted Kilt again… hey, it has good food! Why else would I want to go there… actually, don’t answer that question. After that I went and saw some people I know at a wrestling show in Sanford. The show itself had only 4 matches, but as one of them was an hour long (if you’re reading this and know what the Royal Rumble match is, they had one of those) and it was a fun time overall. The highlight of my time there was seeing some dude who I believed wrestled up in the Northeast and was in the match to fill space. I am sure there is a great backstory to this which I am not privy to, but it was obvious he remained in the ring for more than a half hour to be a punching bag! It sounds strange to a non-wrestling person, but this isn’t as bad or criminal as it may sound. No one injured him or tried to break a limb or anything of that sort. It’s just that they decided to have him “pay his dues” a la what happens in sports with newbies being introduced to things by the veterans. He got hit hard many times and at least 8 times suffered blows to the groin… and I don’t know if all 8 times the wrestler held back on legit inflicting testicular damage! He really took a beating. Then again, you could tell he was a really poor pro wrestler; he had a real limited knowledge of what he was supposed to do, and I suppose the other wrestlers in the ring didn’t appreciate that. I’m sure that’s why he got his ass kicked. To his credit, he at least had his own wrestling gear and didn’t compete in what looked like his workout clothes, which I’ve seen quite a few times in the past. His name was Psycho Somethingoranother. After the show, he was walking around (which was good for him) and he had on a jersey with his name on the back! Pretty wacky, but OK.

After that I didn’t go straight home. No, I didn’t go to downtown Orlando (I’ll probably be back there in a few weeks, though); rather, I went to the arty Enzian Theatre as they were showing a low-budget horror movie I’ve heard about for a long time now called Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, a spoof where some dopey characters think a pair of good old boys are killers but they really aren’t and it turns into a comedy of errors. It’s a goofy plot but it manages to be greatly entertaining so I’m glad I was able to see it in front of an audience. The hillbillies looked pretty authentic; after all, they had a love of Pabst Blue Ribbon! And it wasn’t a hipster love by any means either. Speaking of that, I hate to admit it but the Enzian is a real hipster place in the stuff they serve and show on screen (usually artsy-fartsy stuff) and how their customers dress and act; a lot of beards and glasses, you know. Damn hipsters…

Sunday, it was the usual of going to Friendly Confines to watch the Chicago Bears play. They went against the Carolina Panthers, who have some good players but as a team aren’t that great. That proved to be true as in many ways they played better than the Bears but they made some stupid mistakes and that really allowed for the Bears to win. I can’t complain. There were also no issues with eardrum-shattering audio and the people I sat by were all pretty cool so overall a fine, fine day there. It was also entertaining watching the other games when I could.

As for the upcoming week, there’s no Bears game for me to write about as they won’t be playing until the evening of Monday the 10th; yet, I have some things planned. There’s a huge UFC pay per view on Saturday night which I’ll be with bells on at the local Buffalo Wild Wings to watch, and I also plan on doing something a little out of the ordinary during the week; that will give me something to write about instead of the usual nothing happening during the week.

Tales of Dandelion Root, Jake Shields, & Obnoxious Kazoos

Here’s a recap of what I’ve done in the past week.

Monday through Friday just weren’t too exciting. The only thing I really remember is going to Blockbuster and being told of a trial offer thing; I signed up for it and I’ll quit it before the month is up. I paid 8 dollars and I can rent one DVD at a time for as many times as I can before the 30 days is up. That’ll save me some money so I consider that a good deal. Other than that, not too much to say. Considering that I don’t even remember much from the week says a lot. One afternoon I went to Target to look for something (which I found; I also got something on sale for someone I know, and I did get reimbursed for the purchase) and on Friday I browsed around Barnes & Noble for a bit then I went to the nearby Planet Smoothie to use a coupon I have for a beverage there. That was it for excitement, although I do have to admit that the drink I got, Lunar Lemonade (it’s good) I saw that one of the ingredients they put in there was a blend which included the like of cayenne pepper (!; there’s no taste of that in there, though) and dandelion root! I have no idea why that would be considered healthy; I never thought that when I blew the white puffs out of the tip back when I was young*; maybe that’s just me, though.

And yeah, out of context, what I just said… it makes me look rather lewd!

So, I might as well skip ahead to the weekend. Saturday I did not do too much until the evening. I just watched some college football but the games weren’t all that interesting. I did go and eat some Pizza Hut for dinner, at least. The evening was me going to the local Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the UFC pay per view, featuring an interesting main event and not much else. Still, it was likely much better than that terrible-sounding boxing pay per view from the previous Saturday… I’d make fun of their main event and what a joke it was, but boxing has done a great job this year of making fun of itself. What a terrible 2011 that sport has had, a total disaster.

Anyhow, my time at the BWW, it was rather busy there. A lot of college football fans around, mainly watching the Florida Gators. As a general note I dislike Gators fans… the reason why is that I’ve come across many of them throughout the years, and to be honest many of them come off as white trash; that doesn’t even take into account their arrogant attitude. They whooped a clearly inferior team so I was happy to pay attention to mixed martial arts instead. The show wasn’t all that great, although they had two heavyweight fights back to back and they were so awful they became hilarious. One of them most people thought was going to be putrid but the other one was a surprise at how poor it was. The main event was at least fun to watch, mainly because by the time it started the place was really packed. A lot of people were interested in Jon Jones (or as someone there kept on calling him, either Jim Jones or Mike Jones; you rap fans can laugh at that mistake) defending the title against noted veteran (but faded veteran too) Rampage Jackson. The fight itself wasn’t too much of a surprise, except maybe for how long it lasted, but the crowd at the restaurant/bar going crazy for it made it entertaining. I don’t particularly care for Bones Jones as a person (an opinion I’ve heard become popular in recent months) but as a fighter he’s quite talented, to say the least.

Sunday… oh, this Sunday. The drive to and from Friendly Confines was as aggravating as always. I almost without fail deal with the stupidest Troglodytes on those drives, whether it’s people driving too fast/being maniacs or doing the usual Florida thing of not following the rules of the road. I got there around 3 as the Bears game started at 4:15. The place was jam-packed to watch all of the early games. I had to stand in a random spot for a bit before the bartenders there treated me right… wait for it, it’s not as crude as it sounds… they treated me right by informing me when a spot at the bar was available. It was much appreciated. As usual there, there were some off-putting people but most of them were fine. In fact, one person in particular looked and acted like he ingested some crystal meth before the game! He was a Lions fan and while it was understandable he was excited for his team coming back and pulling off the win, he was acting like a complete maniac, yelling and moving around like he was a loon. People were taking notice of him, and in a bad way. There was a lot of pointing and laughing at him. Finally, a bartender had to literally treat him like a child and tell him to not be such a jackass. He then behaved, before he and his pals left before the game was over with so I imagine he was butthurt over getting embarrassed like that. I was glad I got there when I did, though, as all of the early games ended up being close and most of them had exciting finishes; it was actually difficult to keep track of all of them.

As for the Bears game, I wish I could say that I saw all of it, but Fox was their usual God-awful Fox self. If you didn’t live near Chicago or Green Bay, then you didn’t even get to see the beginning of the game. Even though that game was the one being showed locally here in Orlando, Fox in their infantile wisdom decided to have everyone see the end of the Vikings vs. Lions game. F you, Fox! I’ve hated you for years and it’s for crap like this that I greatly fear their effect on the UFC now that the promotion is tied in with that awful network. So, I missed the opening drive of the game; sure, it was the Packers scoring a touchdown and maybe it was best I didn’t see it, but I was pretty pissed off about it at the time.

The Bears played about how I figured they would and they lost 27-17 in a game not as close as the score would suggest. I was pretty dead tired yesterday as I didn’t get a good night’s sleep on Saturday night. So, having to deal with a sound system that was almost deafening with how Goddamn loud they had the game audio turned up (by the 4th quarter it was at a more acceptable level but I was starting to wonder if I had suffered permanent hearing damage or not; it was headache inducing and that sort of thing really puts a bee in my bonnet, among other things) and a dipshit kid who sometimes blew a kazoo and I am shocked I managed to watch as much of the poor game as I did.

At least while I was there I saw a young man who looked a lot like UFC fighter Jake Shields and there was a great-looking young lady there who looked a lot like Debra Lafave, the hot Florida teacher who had sex with one of her students back in ’05 (that was a big deal down here).

As for this last week in September, as usual there’s not a lot on the agenda. I’ll probably go to a pro wrestling show to meet up with some people there, and finally I’m sure I’ll go see a movie or two on the big screen. I’m sure I’ll find enough to write about; plus, the Bears will face what is supposed to be an easier team… hopefully they’ll finally get another win.

An Agglomeration Of A New Blog

I know, I’m using a fancy word for a blog there (it means “the action or process of collecting in a mass”) but I couldn’t think of a better title for this, so that’s what I went with.

My Monday and Tuesday was not noteworthy at all so let me skip ahead to Wednesday. I had free time and I wanted to do something different so I went up to Lake Mary. First, I went to the theatre up there (the AmStar 12) to watch Fright Night-in 2D instead of 3D-to check it out as I heard wide variances from both the critics and the fans on if the movie was any good or not. Me, I thought that while it wasn’t as bad as I heard from some places, the movie wasn’t all that great either. A lot of bitchy characters and gigantic plot holes really hurt things. A shame, as there were some interesting ideas and exciting scenes. There was actually a few other people watching the movie in the auditorium, and in a rarity for me, I experienced no stupidity from them at all.

After that I went to the nearby Tilted Kilt, for the food of course. Actually, it’s not only also for the drink (I had a mixed one which wasn’t too shabby) but also for the ladies, and many of them who work there look awful nice. I enjoyed that along with the almost always of the burger and fries that I got.

As typical, I witnessed some horrid driving on my way there and back. For example, when I was returning home, I saw someone driving really poorly. I mean, they almost rear-ended someone several times. I caught up to them and to the non-surprise of me, it was some chick who was busy texting on her phone. Figures. I’m against anyone doing that sort of garbage, no matter their sex.

Thursday, I ended up going out to dinner with someone I know; long story but that was an important day for the person so they wanted to go out. We decided on the local Cracker Barrel, as it was close by and I hadn’t been there in a long while. Funnily enough, after the experience I had there it’ll be awhile before I decide to return there… or even their neat-o store that they have attached to the restaurant. Most (in fact, almost all) of the restaurants in my lifetime I’ve visited have the common sense to list all of the stuff that is included in the food you ordered like, say, a cheeseburger. Not the Cracker Barrel, though. I was quite unhappy with that, although I was still able to consume what I ordered. What left me even more miffed was how some of the customers acted; not all the old people in there. They kept to themselves and didn’t act dumb. If only the white trash families there would have done the same, instead of being stupid and not being able to properly control their kids or in one case, being real dicks to their kids. I guess I shouldn’t expect better from a place calling itself the CRACKER Barrel.

Friday, I went to Winter Garden Village to pick up something as a present for some people I know. Even though I know they don’t read this, I won’t want to give away what the present is as they won’t be getting it until “the right time”. I’ll just say that it was something which was released on this day and it’s a big deal… hopefully you can figure it out. I happened to purchase it from Best Buy as I saw that if you got it there you got a free t-shirt with a famous character from that series on the front. I’ll be keeping the shirt, by the way.

Saturday was dull; I spent it at home, watching college football, being dead tired, and spending part of the day fixing an issue with the computer I use. Eventually I figured out what the issue was and I rectified the problem, but I wasn’t happy having to spend time dealing with that. I was tired because I had a rather strange dream involving being in a swamp and dealing with large killer hogs! It sounds like what could be a good low-budget horror movie, by the way; also, the large killer hogs weren’t actually Jared David St. Laurent and David Tuthill, although it’s understandable to make that mistake… speaking of college sports, I’ve started to be turned off by it. Not by the competitors but rather the people who run college sports and their apparent determination to try and ruin it with corruption and stupidity. That’s another rant for another time, though.

Sunday, I went to see the Chicago Bears play against the New Orleans Saints and sad to say, the Saints were just the better team. The Bears started off fine-enough but injuries and just poor play caused Chicago to lose 30-13. Even if it wasn’t for the injuries, Chicago wouldn’t have won. The Saints definitely played better. As the game became less interesting, I paid attention more to the other games going on that were close. I tried not to pay attention to some of the idiots who were too close to comfort to me (yes, the theory of me attracting idiots like moths are attracted to a flame once again proved true); at least there were some interesting people by me too, including an old couple where the lady was pretty wild; she bragged about how back in the 60’s she drove a then-new Mustang and had a blast with it; that’s ranks high on the awesome scale, IMO.

Also while I was there, I heard some guy referencing “the rippin’ and the tearin’”; I laughed as I got the reference. If you don’t, look it up on YouTube, if you dare. It involves an old guy at a resort in Jamaica called Hedonsim (enough said right there) wearing a Speedo and dancing around in a real lewd manner.

Anyhow, I’ll be back Monday the 26th. Not too much is on the agenda for the upcoming week aside from watching the UFC pay per view on Saturday and probably seeing a movie or two on the big screen. As always, I’ll find other adventures to get involved with.
