I haven't seen Birdman myself but I figured it'd be amusing to spoof its title here, and I unfortunately had to deal with ignorant Floridians in the past week... as I always do.
Last Monday, I went to several places. I was at the IKEA in Orlando where I got some miscellaneous items, including a new mat for my bathroom. I then eat at a place I rarely eat at, due to locations and other factors: Zaxby's. I think their food is decent-enough so I was happy to go there for dinner. Their boneless wings weren't as good as the ones you find at like a Buffalo Wild Wings but that's what I expected. I also expected bad traffic, so some A-hole pulling out in front of me in a truck towing a trailer when that Troglodyte could have waited as there was no vehicle behind me... sadly it was not a shock.
Tuesday I didn't do a thing but Wednesday something out of the ordinary happened: I got a new toilet! It's fancy and I am glad to have it. Thursday, I went out with someone I know to a local restaurant: as they had a coupon from Bob Evans that's where we went. I had my almost always of a burger and fries and that was fine. Friday was nothing of note but let me skip ahead to Saturday, where I did something new.
In the past year or so I've griped about major college sports and how corrupt and money-grubbing it is. Well, those divisions below that I am fine with, and I drove down to Kissimmee to watch two games of Division II basketball and it's the tournament of teams in the Sunshine State Conference where I saw the number one team in the country (Florida Southern) play against Lynn then it was Barry against Nova Southeastern. Once you paid your ticket and entered the building it was pretty much YOLO as there was no one around to clarify where you could and couldn't sit, so I had to do a lot of presuming and as I've mentioned in the past, I really don't care for such things.
The first game I sat on the floor right by the court and the second I was in the portable stands but both views were nice in their own ways. Neither game had close finishes but even with the final scores it doesn't mean that the games weren't interesting to watch. As expected Florida Southern won 79-66 and Barry won their game 86-54. The experience ended up fine, although maybe I shouldn't have had that giant hot dog from their concession stand and their chairs weren't that comfortable; even now my back isn't 100%. I realize that makes me sound like a really old man, but it's true!
Sunday, I heard that Florida Southern beat Barry by 10 points. I do find it interesting that these smaller colleges sometimes have colorful mascots for their sports teams. Here it was Moccasins, Sharks, Fighting Knights and Buccaneers, which I am partial to as my old high school was known as the Bucs. The sports fans were what I expected, so too often I did hear them berate the refs and act like they couldn't even tie their own shoelaces, when in actuality they were perfectly fine. People like that are all over and it's not just a Florida issue, but I met some real Rhodes scholars this past week that I won't even delve into my interactions with them. Also on Sunday, the only thing I did was watch Illinois State University play a basketball game on national TV. It was the final game in their conference's tournament and them making it that far was a surprise. In the first half they were doing well against Northern Iowa, then the second half happened and as expected they lost the game.
When I return a week from today... nothing's on the agenda quite yet. My mom will have a friend down here from out of state so at least one time I am sure I'll have dinner with them. Other than that, I don't have a thing planned.
