Here's a recap of what I did this past week, a week where I had my 32nd birthday; I can not believe I am that old, but it is true. Let me be out of order and start off by talking about that awards show from last night. I haven't really cared too much about it for at least the past few years now; talk about a bloated pompous affair, and of course all the screw-ups they make. Well, once I heard that no-talent idiot who has created some all-time terrible cartoons and a stupid talking teddy bear movie, I now knew for certain not to check it out! However, it came to my attention that someone I only know from the online world was going to do a webcam broadcast of the awards show where he and his pals would rip apart everything, and hey, that sounded like something perfect for me.
That broadcast they did, though... it started off fine as they riffed on all the stuipd red carpet crap. But, about 15 minutes into that seemingly 9 hour long opening with William Shatner that was SO horrible and so bad, the video cut out and the account got suspended because, get this, “the owner of this content has reached his bandwidth limit.” So in other words, the U Broadcast website is God-awful and a pathetic joke, although still better than Seth MacFarlane! I'll be honest, the only audio of the show I heard was the first 15 minutes of the opening-where the webcam guys ripped it apart like I would for being awful-but that was more than enough for me to know just to half-watch the show on TV while I listen to music on my laptop. Once I saw who won most of the awards, I was reminded why I've been apathetic about the Oscars for awhile now.
Oh, and I have never found The Onion to be all that funny. The most obvious jokes are made and besides them not being amusing at all, they are presented in the laziest most uncreative of ways; before they deleted it, they had a Tweet up where they said that 9 year old Quvenzhane Wallis was “the c-word”; I won't say the word they actually used. Charming people they are. I don't want this to be too negative so sometime in the future I'll have to talk about how I am really tired of everything that Jennifer Lawrence does, so onto what I did between last Monday and this past Saturday...
Monday the 18th was boring, but Tuesday I went to Winter Garden Village as I needed to pick up a few items from Staples, which I did. I then was in Barnes & Noble for a bit before getting a beverage from good old Planet Smoothie. Wednesday, I was going to get a haircut as I found a coupon to get one cheap, but when I went to the place, they were obviously closed down. Leave the memories alone! I had been going to that place (which had changed names and even locations) for like the past 8 years now so I'll have to find a new location to go to. I don't need a haircut right away so it is not a pressing matter. To make something of it, I went to the local CVS to pick up an item that someone I know was looking for.
Thursday I did nothing of note, which is OK as Friday (everyone get down on Friday) was my birthday. Talking about Friday and Saturday will be a nice way to end this blog. I haven't gone downtown since early November, when I went to the theatre in downtown Orlando to watch Skyfall then I was going to go to good old Mako's, only to discover that my favorite nightclub had closed down. I figured, though, that a nice night to make my return would be the night of my birthday. I parked downtown and I decided to see what was at the place formerly occupied by Mako's. It's now “Native Social Bar” or something along those lines. It's now more of a regular bar/club and it's cleaned up and not the sleazy and trashy place it used to be; problem is, I enjoyed the sleazy and trashy aspect! At least it's fine as what it is now. I stayed around to have a drink and I tried the Fireball; no, it's not the Fireball from Revenge of the Nerds, where people spit out grain alcohol onto a torch of fire and they literally blow a fireball. It is cinnamon-flavored whiskey, and it doesn't really taste like whiskey, which is fine by me. After that I went to a place I heard of randomly, a new place known as Ghost Bar And Lounge.
While I was there I had quite the time. I saw two people around I know from elsewhere. I don't know them well, just to clarify. One now works there and the other one was there as a fellow customer. The latter is someone who used to work at the Clermont Buffalo Wild Wings. That was from late '10 to about April of '11. I'd brag about how she remembered me, but... to be honest, I am a distinctive person so it probably isn't too much of a surprise. It was nice to see that lady again; I only briefly chatted with her as she was talking to some other guys and I presume that one of them was her date for the night. The other person is someone who I recognize from working at a particular restaurant. I guess this is where she works now. I walked around, listened to the music, and sometimes paid attention to the NBA game they were showing on their TV's. At first, a cover band was there. They did songs from the 80's to today and in a sort of cheesy way, they were awesome! Hey, they played tunes like Livin' On A Prayer and Don't Stop Believing. Works for me. After that someone on a laptop was playing songs and again it was the type of tunes that I enjoy.
I was sitting there when suddenly a lady invited me over to sit by her and her friends. Yes. I didn't believe it at first but I made my way over there and I did in fact meet SIX different ladies. Heh heh heh... to be honest I only really talked to one or two of them (and I do wish I remembered more than one or two of their names) but I am extremely flattered they made such a nice gesture. It was great to meet all of them and I hope that isn't the only time I ever run into any of those girls, but... well, I hope I do get to see them again. They left after too short a time to go home and that made me sad. They left before I could get any of their Facebook addresses, for example! At least some random Asian guy took some pictures of me with those ladies for his website; he's not the first Asian guy around Orlando who has taken pictures at the clubs to post on his website. Hopefully those pictures do get posted eventually as you know they will be on my Facebook page in order for me to do some humblebragging. So yep, Friday night was pretty great and a nice way for me to celebrate my birthday.
Saturday, the only thing I did was go to the local Buffalo Wild Wings and I do have my usual complaints from that place, those being that the people working there have no idea what they're doing when it comes to figuring out which sporting event should be on each TV screen, and all the idiots who are there to see the shows. Both of those factors were in full force on this night. That said, the undercard of the pay per view had some quality moments and the same goes for the pay per view itself. It was the UFC debut of the infamous fighter known as Ronda Rousey. I don't like her personality at all but that has nothing to do with her fighting skills. The main event was more competitive than expected, so that is good. Plus, I can tell you that BWW's limited time only Cinnamon Squares... pretty great.
When I return a week from today, my next blog will likely not be as entertaining as this one. But I'll try my best for it not to be a dull boring blog either.

The Blog Where I Realize The Die Hard Franchise Is Dead
I'll talk about the Die Hard films in a bit. But, I am going to note that I really only have two days to talk about, as the other five were rather unventful. I mean, I don't think anyone needs to hear about me getting some random items from Walmart, for example, or how I watched a free UFC show on TV on Saturday; it was a real mixed bag. So just note that I'll be talking about what I did on Wednesday, and what I did on Friday. I know, I'm turning into a lame old man, it seems! And this upcoming Friday I'll be 32 years old! Holy cow. Even I don't believe it.
Wednesday, I was hoping to see the Die Hard movie marathon they were showing at random theatres across the country but I wasn't able to. It was the first four movies then at 10 was the new one. At least I saw the first one back in like '05 at a random screening; it was an original film print so it wasn't in great condition but it made the experience interesting. That is one of my all-time favorite films. 2 and 3 are real good despite some issues. I saw 3 the summer of '95 when it came out. I went there with a parent and that was a memorable experience. I never saw the fourth one on the big screen. Once I did watch it on DVD, I really wasn't a fan, but after Friday it doesn't look so bad.
Instead, I had free time in the evening so I went to International Drive (a place I usually try to avoid) to go to the Brick House Tavern & Tap, a place I went to one time before a few months ago. I went back on a rainy night and it was busy there, some of my fellow customers were loudmouth harpies and there weren't enough bartenders on duty. Still, the chicken & waffles I had was tasty and so was the one can of Pabst Blue Ribbon I drank. After that I went to Pinkberry for the first time in awhile and I had some grapefruit yogurt. Pretty good. Next month their limited time flavor is key lime and that will be a must-buy for me. That should taste great.
Friday, that's when I saw the new Die Hard movie, despite hearing plenty of people online (including reliable action fans I usually trust) say that it's shockingly bad. Turns out, they were right! I went to Downtown Disney to check it out as they were showing it on their giant ETX screen with fancy Dolby surroundsound. Much to my surprise because I saw it that way I got a free black t-shirt which advertised the movie on the front with white and red letters (it's not as fancy as it sounds, trust me) and on the back it advertises the fancy Dolby surroundsound system. As for the movie, the typical reaction I have heard online was true. It's a bad movie in general, not just a bad Die Hard movie. The story was lame and went places that made me roll my eyes and the relationship between John and John Jr. was atrocious and incredibly tiresome to have to deal with (John Jr. was a royal A-hole) but when a Die Hard movie has terribly shot action that is nearly impossible to follow or make out or comprehend... that is a major issue. Sure, it is fun to laugh at how bad it is but that should never be the case for a film in that franchise.
After the movie I drove over to the infamous Orange Blossom Trail, although the area I visited was not one of the bad areas. I went to Buffalo Wings & Rings, a place I've been to a few times before. The service wasn't always great there and every time I visited there were loud loathsome D-bags playing the Golden Tee arcade machine, and on this night the service was better and... there were some loud loathsome D-bags playing the Golden Tee arcade machine! At least the food was good.
Well, I hope that everyone has a decent President's Day today. My day will likely be highly boring, which seems to be the norm for me as of late. As for my birthday on Friday, I have nothing planned for that, in terms of presents or what I'll be doing for dinner that night. You'll have to wait until a week from today for my next blog to find out what I did for the big 3-2 and the other activities I do in the next 7 days, including seeing the next UFC pay per view. It will hopefully have more events for me to talk about, at least.

Fancy Car Shows, Birthday Dinners, & Thrift Shop
No, not MY birthday of course (that isn't until Friday the 22nd) but I'll explain what I'm referring to in a moment. Now, I'll refer to what I mean by “Thrift Shop”. Last night someone I know on Facebook mentioned there was a song out called Thrift Shop and he said it was all-time terrible and the singer was “a cracker-ass”. I had no idea what that was so I looked on YouTube and I watched the video to the song; it's by some jokers known as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. OH MY GOD, that is one of the worst songs I've ever heard in my lifetime. It's a goofy joke “song” about shopping at thrift shops and it's unspeakably bad. After that, I discovered that this act is actually popular! I was so happy when I did not know about this act. Yes I did look online to listen to some of their other songs, and they are not as novelty crappy, sure, but they are still horrible; the choade-looking white guy who raps... he actually can't rap! The realization that Thrift Shop is now number one on the Billboard Charts... all I can do is shake my head, sigh, and be glad I mainly listen to older songs and when I listen to newer things it's almost always in the electronica field. But on a happier note...
This past week thankfully had a few interesting things for me to talk about. Monday was dull, Tuesday I went to Winter Garden Village for a little shopping, Wednesday was boring, and so was Friday. Thursday, however, I had free time in the evening so I went to the Mall at Millenia to spend more than a few minutes in it for the first time in months. I walked around for a bit to see what was new, and as I figured, it's not a place that changes a whole lot but I did see that the FYE store was no more. It was nice to walk around in there and see what they had on sale, but given the prices FYE usually charges, no shocker to me that most of their stores have closed down in the past few years.
After that I went to a new restaurant that opened in the area recently but I had even at one of their locations in Lakeland a few months ago. It was Burger 21, a burger bar sort of joint where they have some other items besides the obvious and they also make milkshakes. That place is pretty cool. Sure, it would have been nice to have the employees there not be idiots (I am not referring to the dame who made the milkshakes) but they didn't screw up my order and they did provide much comedy in the utter confusion and clusterfuckery (excuse my French) that happened when they tried to figure out an order of French fries and whether or not the customer was actually supposed to receive it. I had the chicken fingers and fries, along with a peanut butter chocolate shake, which was great, great stuff.
My Sunday was not what you'd call eventful*, so the rest of this is me discussing the Saturday I had. Several noteworthy things happened, including yet another one of those moments that I swear could happen only to me. In the early afternoon I went up to the Lake Mary area; I believe it was in '11 I went up there on a Saturday in early February to attend a free charity event where many fancy expensive cars are displayed, from Ferraris to Porsches, Bentleys to Rolls Royces. Pretty nice. It was more of the same this time around; pretty cool. Sure, I could have done without the horrific traffic that was filled with cretins and clowns, but that only reminds me why it's probably a good thing I don't do as much driving as I did in the past. After that I went to the Altamonte Mall for a bit; more on that later. Dinner, me and my mom went to dinner at Splitsville, a place I talked about a few times last month. It was her birthday on this day; the meal and experience went well.
* I sure as heck did not watch the alleged music awards show on this night, which for years now is actually a bunch of musical performances with the awards a complete afterthought; they have ALWAYS gotten it wrong (look it up, it's true) and to be honest, I don't give a damn about most modern musical acts these days so what's the point in trying to watch that insufferable production?
I had a “This can only happen to me” moment at the Altamonte Mall. I was in their Gamestop for a bit to look at what games they had. I did not make any purchases but I did get a strange request. A girl who looked no older than about 14 came up to me and asked if I was a gamer or not; I was puzzled, as did I look like a gamer? Did she need gaming advice? Was she making a pass at me? I asked why she was asking such a question. Turns out, she needed to find a game that started with the letter Q; I don't think there are too many of those out there. Luckily for me, I happened to be right by the game Quake 4. She took a picture of it with her phone... then she left. Don't ask how I know this but I have indeed heard that some young types do scavenger hunts in their local malls, for birthday parties and what have you. No kidding. This was confirmed when other people came in and asked an employee the same question. If I did not know such trivia, I'd have no damn idea what was going on! I'd feel like I was in some Bizarro World.
Not much is planned for the upcoming week... yes, I do realize I say this all the time, but it's not like I like when I say it, and I am not lying this time around.

The Blog Where I Don't Give A Damn About Punxsutawney Phil
I'll be honest, I always thought that the whole Groundhog Day thing made zero sense and was highly stupid. I have no idea if the groundhog “saw his shadow” on Saturday or not and I could not care less about trying to look it up. Then again, I am the guy who has never understood the appeal of Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl at all, and I am a dog lover. Puppies doing puppy things on a fake football field and them trying to be “funny” about everything... no thank you. Then again, I am a guy who I swear, I sometimes am like Rihanna taking back Chris Brown!
As for what I did last week, at least there is a little more to write about than the last one, at least. The week itself before the weekend, not action-packed. On Monday I did go to the local Sweetbay Supermarket in town; I heard while channel-surfing and coming across the news (i.e. I rarely watch the news, in other words) that various locations of that grocery chain were closing down, including the one in town. I was sad, as while I went to the local Publix more often, the place that was Kash & Karry before they got bought out by Sweetbay was pretty cool and nice as something different. Leave the memories alone! I mean, I had gone to it for like the past 9 years and probably by now they are closed.
Other than that, once again I wasn't too exciting. I stayed around Clermont and I doubt people want to hear about me going to the local WalMart or the fast food joints I visited like KFC. I did go out and see a pair of movies at the local Epic Theatres in town... Django Unchained and The Last Stand. Both were quality entertainment in different ways. Django (the D is silent) is a hit from Tarantino; not all of his movies are hits to me; I know, controversial but that is how I feel. The Last Stand I am sad is a box office bomb. It's a goofy big action movie but it's a blast to watch, with bloody action, funny and entertaining characters (even Johnny Knoxville and his odd character are fine), and yeah, I am fine with the cast having several hot brunette ladies. Anyhow, let me talk about the weekend, which was even more eventful than I expected.
Saturday, there was the latest UFC pay per view, and on paper it was looking to be pretty good. Turns out, it was. I went to the Buffalo Wild Wings to see it. Yes, that place has enraged me too many times, and I've noted my anger on Twitter. But, it is a few miles away from where I live and they have big TV's so like a battered wife... I went back there. I went inside rather than my usual spot sitting on the outside patio. While I don't get why they've always had a problem in figuring out what programing should be on which TV's (apparently, a college huge basketball game between the number one team in the country playing at the number three team... not really a big deal) but the night wasn't too eventful. The event overall was pretty good, with some thankful upsets happenings. The female bartender was new to me, and interestingly enough, looks-wise she resembled Linda Blair from The Exorcist II; what a howlingly bad movie that is, but if you've ever seen it, it doesn't take too long to figure out that it was an entirely braless performance from Ms. Blair; this bartender, she had on all undergarments.
Sunday... it was going down the road of being pretty bad but by the end things ended up working out OK. I did not want to go back to Buffalo Wild Wings to see it but I did not feel like driving far either, because I've been lame like that for much of 2013 so far. I decided to go to a place that started off in Tampa but then spread to various places across the state and even when they opened one up in my town of Clermont, I did not go to the greatly named WORLD OF BEER until last night. I went there to watch the big game. In hindsight, maybe I should have taken a longer drive and waited for another day to check it out. I do not know why they thought, “Oh no, let's keep the jukebox on and let's not have any game audio at all”, but at first I was not a happy camper. Then, I realized that I was not really looking forward to hearing the big ads, as in the past few years they haven't been great aside from the usually funny beer ones. This year... they looked pretty horrid, the worst in a long while, and there was hardly any funny beer commercials at all. Of course I can watch and hear all of them online at places like YouTube, but I have only checked out a few as the rest of them aren't even worth listening to. Fast 6 looks even more preposterous than the 5th one, and I am saying that in a good way.
I also did not need to hear Alicia Keys and her “it's all about me!” version of the Star Spangled Banner; I was mad when I heard that she was going to do it “like it's a new song”, because really you want to mess around with the National Anthem... I heard parts of it via YouTube video and yeah I was thankful I did not hear it in full or hear it live. The same goes with the Beyonce halftime show. The theatrics looked nice and all, but afterwards on YouTube I could only listen to a small part of her vocal performance; I never thought she was a good singer at all and that was especially true from what I heard; yet, of course many people thought it was “awesome”. Sigh. Thankfully, there was a lady bartender who ended up being pretty awesome. She looked and sounded like a blonde Anna Faris (not a bad thing) and durng the halftime show she told a dude by me that she thought the Black Eyed Peas performance from two Super Bowl's ago was atrocious due to the laughably bad non-doctored version of Fergie's singing voice (definitely true; that was horrid; come to think of it, Madonna last year wasn't bad at all) and she wasn't a Beyonce fan either. A lady after my own heart! She was busy so I wasn't able to chit-chat with her much but maybe if I see her again I'd say that her musical tastes are awesome.
The game... always interesting. Baltimore vs. San Francisco was Baltimore getting out to a big lead, then there was an unprecedented 34 minute long situation when half of the stadium lights went out (epic fail) and that resulted in many great Twitter comments and jokes. Once the game started back up San Francisco came back-cue the nutty irrational conspiracy theorists-and the final score ended up being 34-31, with Baltimore winning.
The gimmick of World of Beer is that they offer a tremendous variety of brewskis, from all over the planet. What I had during the span of a few hours (don't worry I was fine to drive home):
Baltika Zhiguljovskoje from Russia. I have no idea how to pronounce the last part of that; neither does any bartender.
Canada's Moosehead
Tusker from Kenya
Karlovacko from Croatia
Banks from Barbados
Golden Pheasant from Slovakia
Overall, all of them at least tasted fine and it was nice to be a world traveler and drink something else besides swill like Budweiser or Coors Light.
I am glad my time there turned out quite a bit better than I thought early on. I'll be back a week from today and nothing is planned yet; I'll try to venture out of a small radius and go to some different places.
As for what I did last week, at least there is a little more to write about than the last one, at least. The week itself before the weekend, not action-packed.
