The Blog Where I Experience Fear And Loathing At Walt Disney World

I am referencing the Hunter S. Thompson novel as something I experienced in the past week will make some think that I experienced a Raoul Duke-like drug trip. In the last blog I talked about what I did on Monday the 19th, which was make an airport run up to Sanford and drop someone off, then I went to Winter Park for a bit before driving back home.

Tuesday, I returned to the familiar haunt of Winter Garden Village to eat at Chipotle then I went to Planet Smoothie for a beverage. I know that I've mentioned hundreds of times before how bad the traffic is down here, but only a few times before have I talked about how even in parking lots people drive terribly; with people walking all about you have people not paying attention, not using turn signals, and speeding. Speeding was a bad problem on this day. Some guy blew by me in a roundabout and I was mad that he was going too fast in an area where people are actually walking all over the place; suddenly he stopped and went in reverse, so I stopped but I did not go backwards. That A-hole went back to park in a space but I honked at him twice for his stupidity; you wouldn't have needed to go backwards if you were looking for a space; why weren't you going slowly if you wanted to find a place to park at?! What a clueless maroon! Stupidity that pronounced is sadly a common thing down here in Florida.

Wednesday, I went to the dentist. It was just to clean my teeth; nothing major. I saw someone do a terrible parking job, which didn't make me happy after the evening before; I also wish I had better teeth... or was born with a better body to begin with, but I don't want to be emo or be whiny so I'll just move on. Thursday, I went to Walmart to pick up a few items; some of the people there lived down to the stereotypes of that store. You know, moms rudely yelling at their kids, people being idiots in other ways, and what have you. As I doubt anyone wants to hear about me purchasing underwear or deodorant, I'll move onto Friday, which was a more interesting day.

On Friday I stayed in and relaxed... until pretty late at night. As has happened a few times before, Walt Disney World (along with Disneyland) had the Magic Kingdom open for 24 hours straight, and it's pretty popular. I did the first one back in '12 on Leap Year Day but not the second out last year. I wasn't going to miss it again this year. I didn't get into the park until about midnight; a reason why... the parking lot was a real clusterf***, to state it bluntly. The traffic was practically stopped for a few minutes and turns out, while I don't know what the delay was, it was a real YOLO situation as you could park wherever and that was chaos. Yep, it's still pretty popular. In fact, I was surprised by the amount of kids who were there way past their bedtime. Maybe it's just me but when I was that young I never stayed up past midnight.

Anyhow, I went on a few rides and ate some food there. In an unexpected surprise, they had a “soft opening” to the brand new ride they have there, that being the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. It's a rollercoaster and it rides real smooth, and most importantly while it's tame as it's something for kids and adults, it doesn't mean it's not fun. It was a pleasant surprise as I thought I'd have to go back there in the summer to do it for the first time (it opens officially on Wednesday) and I still want to try it out in the daytime; that will be hopefully a day it isn't too blazing hot.

The real highlight, though, was something unexpected that will make some think I ingested some acid or mescaline right before I entered the park but I swear this is all true. Disney encouraged people to dress up for the 24 hour bash and quite a few people did. Starting at 2 AM there were at least two spots in the park where they had a DJ spinning modern and old songs and the type of music it was, it really was the sort of thing I heard at places like Mako's or Ghost Bar & Lounge in downtown Orlando, except more sanitized. As if it wasn't odd enough seeing cosplayers dancing around to such tunes, Disney also had some employees dancing around in Minnie Mouse and Chip and Dale costumes dancing about... and I never thought I'd ever see people in those costumes busting a move to ditties by Lil Jon, Flo Rida, Daft Punk, Michael Jackson, and the Backstreet Boys, but it is true. I did not get out of there until after 4 AM, so it was a LONG day.

Saturday and Sunday, I did not do anything except for going to Walmart again, this time to pick up a few miscellaneous items. I was happy to relax after the Friday night I had. As for the upcoming week.. I don't plan on doing anything for Memorial Day either. There's nothing on the agenda, come to think of it; while I doubt I'll experience something quite like the surreal antics of late Friday night, I'll find things to do.
